I just finished this fun book by Hal Roth.  It is written in somewhat of a daily log format, but his writing is very descriptive and  entertaining.  After reading several books and blogs about circumnavigations it was nice to read about a cruise that included new routes and landfalls.  Hal and his wife bought a 35 footer and sailing from San Francisco made a clockwise loop around the Pacific.  Their experiences in Japan and the Aleutians  were vivid and heartwarming.

I highly recommend this one for your winter reading pleasure.   Grab a cup of hot coffee/tea/hot chocolate and curl up - his writing will take you along for the ride.

I met Hal and his wife at the All Sail Boat Show at Navy Pier, Chicago many years ago. He was very old then and really needed his wife's help just to stay upright. I fortunately read his book before the show and I had the impression Mr. Roth delighted in my retelling some of high-lites written about in the book. Both of the Roth's were very keen on their adventure into blue, some times frothy and dangerous Pacific.

I had read in Sailing, I believe that Mr. Roth had passed away.
