...the only things about sailing...(1) you are letting the wind do the work, (2) it's quiet (unless there is thunderstorm, big waves, wind screaching thu the rigging, rails-a-wash, etc.,etc.)

it's great!!

Sailing is an opportunity to learn in a quiet setting the limits of one's effect upon the world.  It is beautiful, peaceful, humbling, intense, a learning experience, full of wonder; I could go on, but I think that we all know what each of us is talking about.  I love the chance to observe the wind, waves, and wildlife.  I have learned that birds have personality and a sense of mischief, like the cormorant who used my boat as a place from which to ambush seagulls.  He would land on the water on one side of the boat.  When a seagull landed on the other side, the cormorant would dive under the boat and come up under the seagull beak first.  The seagull would let out a squak and take flight, followed by the cormorant.  He would make a big circle, settle down on the leeward side of the boat and wait for the next victim.  I laughed so hard it's a good thing there wasn't much wind or wave action!
