HI. Any Com-Pac owners in the Memphis/Mid-South region? Rare as hen's teeth, I suspect.

I wish I had one to sail! I'm in the market for a boat after selling my Oday 25 down on the Florida coast. But you guys are confirming what I thought. It's going to be hard to find one for sale around here.

I found my 19 on Craigslist last spring, only ten miles from home. Best bet is to watch the CP site and Craigslist maybe ebay too.. start now and by spring you'll find one...
Texas sailing site is pretty good too. Good luck

Got to agree with Rob. Keep an eye on the Com-pac sites, craigslist, and maybe even publications like the thrifty nickel and bargain mart, etc. I actually found my 16 in the on-line version of the bargain mart.

You can go to craigslist-Tennessee-Memphis, then type sailboat into the search window and it will pull up every add with the word 'sailboat' in it. Then take the 'boat' off and just leave 'sail' in the search window and it will pull up a few more. There's got to be plenty of good sailboats all around you there. Maybe you'll hit it lucky and find a Com-pac.

There is an outfit over there around Memphis called Rooke Sails that always has interesting deals on sailboats. When I was still looking, I saw several good deals they had, but it was just too far for me to drive at the time. I'm all the way over at the other end of the state from you, in East Tennessee.

Best of luck,
Milt

But I bet you won't find it as good as Pensacola. The Santa Rosa Sound is like a big lake with no one on it! Contrast that to Pickwick Lake up here and it's amazing. Here pontoon boats, ski boats and those dreaded jet skis cover the water. Down there it's like, where is everybody? I have been out sailing and not seen another boat, even on the weekend.  Let us know what Ross Barnett is like. I've never seen it though I've driven through Jackson a million times! Also let us know what your Legacy is like!

boteler - I live about 35 min from Ky Lake.  I sailed from the US Rt. 79 Bridge at Paris Landing to the US Rt. 68 bridge in KY this past August.  It's a round trip of 50 miles by the lake.  Camped overnight in the Land Between the Lakes.  It was a blast.  Contact me when you come this way, maybe we can get together.

Hey Greg,

Surprised your not taking advantage of the sound so close to Hattiesburg.  Great anchorages like the Horseshoe at Horn, Smugglers Cove and the north channel at Cat, and both sections of Ship when the weather is right.  I used to live on the Coast, went to USM.

Wordnut,

One of the benefits of being retired is that I can go midweek.  Pickwick, Yellow Creek, and Bay Springs are virtually deserted mid week, particularly in the Spring and Fall.

Brackish,  Bay Springs is very pretty and undeveloped. I went through there taking my O'Day down the Tenn-Tom. The water is really clear.  And you are right about the MS Sound, too. My Folks kept their Ranger 33 at Pass Christian when I was a teen, even though we lived in Memphis. A six hour drive! We'd take off about noon on Friday and get back late Sunday night. My Dad was an obsessed sailor! Water gets pretty out by Ship Island.

Did you used to keep your boat at Aqua?  Seems like I remember there being a Com-Pac 23 there for a while.

brackish

No, I just got this 23 mid summer of this year and it was at Guntersville, AL before that.  I crewed for races from Aqua Yacht harbor for a couple of years recently, don't recall a Com-Pac 23 up there at that time.

I did keep a Columbia 8.7 and before that a Columbia 24 Challenger in Gulfport Harbor for about twenty-five years total.
