Hello Everyone,

I became the proud owner of a 1986 23/3 last year and sail her (Ruby) out of Cornucopia, Wisconsin (Lake Superior, Apostle Islands).  Prior to Ruby, I owned a 24' C & C and sailed out of Duluth, MN.  I find that Ruby is the perfect sailboat for cruising the Apostle Island area solo or with my wife (when I can get her out of the garden).  I installed a Harken roller furler at the end of last season and so far have been very happy with this decision (especially when I am out solo).  There is one other Compac 23 in the Cornucopia marina (on trailer) but it seems they are not very common on Lake Superior (at least on this end of the lake).

I have found this owners group website to be very helpful and interesting.  It is just nice to know there are so many other people out there who seem to be enjoying their boats as much as I do Ruby.  I hope everyone has a great summer sailing season (hopefully it will warm up here soon).

Welcome Scott - I'm jealous.  I sailed the Apostle Islands on Tom Embertson's 37' Islander a couple of years ago out of Bayfield.  Beautiful sailing grounds.  I'm considering hauling my Com-Pac 16 up there for a weekend.  My wife thinks I'm nuts but that's only because she hasn't seen the islands herself or she'd want to go back too.  I think the C-16 could handle the waters inside/between the islands.  I'm not quite crazy enough to want to venture out too far on Superior in her though.

Hi Tom,  Nice to hear from you.  I love the Compac 16....in fact it was the first Compac I ever saw.....and it was the model that inspired me to obtain more information on what this manufacturer had to offer.  The other Compac 23 in Cornucopia is owned by a couple from Madison, Wisconsin and they come up two or three times a year, launch, and cruise the islands.  There is a nice public boat launch in Cornucopia........and lots of protected sailing waters right around this immediate area.....Siskiwit Bay itself has so much scenery to offer (sea caves, rock formations, sand beaches, etc.).  I do feel lucky to be able to sail out of  Cornucopia.....I actually live in Knife River, MN...........on Lake Superior to......about 30 miles west of Cornucopia....as the sailboat flies.  There is also a nice marina in Knife River (small) but the shoreline does not offer much protection and you are pretty exposed to the Lake Superior elements.  So, we decided to keep our Compac in Cornucopia.   Hope you can make it to the Apostles sometime soon !!
