Trip to Tamp Bay

I am headed to the Tampa vicinity with my CP 25, via trailer, on June the 19th. I will be staying at Little Harbor Marina in Ruskin until the 28th. It has been years since I have sailed the area and at that time it was aboard a CP 19 which my dad owned. I have since bought the 19 from my dad and then several years later I horse traded for my CP 25.

I am looking forward to sailing the area again and sadly I will be spreading my dad's ashes around his old sailing grounds. I have been sitting in the Little Harbor restaurant several times(boatless) and have seen several Com-Pacs in the area headed out for an afternoon sail, wishing that I could be aboard. Now I will get the chance to be the one on the boat headed out instead of watching from the shore, and I am excited!

I was directed to EG Simmons Park for the nearest boat ramp and was wondering if anybody knew of this ramp and if it was sailboat friendly? I have checked on line and it looks like it should be okay but, if anyone has local knowledge, any and all information would be appreciated. Hope to see some CP owners while I am down there.

Thanks in advance

I ve not launched at that ramp but from the photos it looks pretty shallow.  It is right on the bay so perhaps launching at high tide would be a good idea.  Sorry to hear about your dad.  I've participated in far too many burials at sea - I m sure he would appreciate your doing this.   Matt

HideAway,

Thanks for your thoughts; we look at this trip as a celebration to my dad's life, so it is all good. The ramp does look shallow to me as well... Shell Point Marina has a ramp that looks better, but since I am not staying with them I may not be able to use it, we shall see. I leave this Friday and should be down there sometime Saturday. I will give a full report when I get back at the end of the month, it should be fun.

Frank,

I have been to Pembroke many times as a young lad and remember it very well. I still have a lot of family up there and one of these days I will be back for a visit. If and when that happens I would love to meet you in person if you are not in the Bahamas, maybe meeting in the Bahamas is a better idea. I have enjoyed my 25 very much and I am looking forward to getting it in the Gulf.

Thanks everyone
