Hi! We just purchased an 84 CP16, and have found this site incredibly helpful as we get familiar with our "new" boat. We are finding out that although she seems in fairly good condition, the previous owner had stored her for 3 years, and had never even launched her. He knew little about her, or Com-Pacs in general.
We obtained an Owner's Manual from Com-Pac hoping it would answer our rigging questions, but the only one they had available was for the 16CB - not our boat! Since we had sailed over 15 yrs ago, we figured it would all come back as we attempted to rig her in our driveway, but discovered that at some point in her life, the original boom must have been replaced (not slotted), Hence our question about the "loose footed main" in the forum. We still haven't quite figured out how it was rigged as there are 2 pulleys, and a cleat mounted along the port side on the boom. No additional fittings on deck to give us a clue on how it was rigged.  At this point we figure on just ignoring the pulleys. Photos on the site have helped greatly, but no one seems to have a boom like ours! Can anyone help us to make sure we have it right? Thanks so much in advance!

You may have seen in a previous thread on this forum the discussion of loose-footed mains on CP 23s.  Some people have found it easier to sail with the main losse-footed, for ease of reefing and better sail shape when reefed.  I don't know how it would work on a 16, but should be about the  same.  The pulleys andc cleats are for reefing and for the outhaul.   Welcome to the wonderful world of Compacs!  You will love sailing your boat.

Hi, Thanks for your advice, I'll look up that post for the CP-26. Your comments make sense to me about the outhaul and reefing, however, our main does not have reefing points, only battens.  Any advice on reefing as well? Thanks in advance for your help,
