CP-16 gaff rig cat boat....what!!!

Current.  Did you say current?  I was just reading the "lee helm" thread and Deb mentioned current too, and BAM, it hit me. 

Where I boat is above a dam on a river that they call a lake.  There is always current, and it's fairly swift.  The section that I sail most often is the north branch.  The river (current) runs from north to south.  When the wind is blowing north and I'm going south (downstream) I can point just fine.  But when the wind is blowing south and I'm sailing north (upstream) I can't seem to point worth a crap.

Now that I'm thinking about it and remembering my adventures over the past year or so, I'm almost positive that's what it is, regardless of which rig I'm flying.

I googled it and found others having the same woes. 

I can't wait to test this theory.  Not really sure how to overcome it if that is what it is, but it'll sure be a relief to know if that's truly what the problem is.
