CP16 or CP19?

If I can track down a "Cheap" CP 16 I might not have to sell the Skiff.

I'd watch ebay, sailingtexas.com, the com-pac yahoo discussion group and our own classified listings.  Also post a com-pac wanted message in those various places.  There seems to be at least 2 or 3 for sale at any time.  

Natch, you want the best for the least and not have to travel too far.  I sold our com-pac 16 last month within 3 days with an ad on our classified site.  ( We are now sailing a com-pac 19 that became available in our own neighborhood and I had to sell to afford the newer boat.) And the only reason it took that long to sell the boat was because I was out of town on a camping trip.

I've been looking and had my eye on one and......I GOT IT!
A 1976 Compac 16, yes it is older and needs some cleaning up and work but it fit my budget perfectly. Hope to pick it up this weekend.

I was just looking around ebay and saw another Com-pac 16 with 5 days left for bidding starting at 1000.  She's named Nomad, and I wonder if this is THE Nomad of the Handbook of Trailer sailing fame, or a twin.  Needs some TLC and should be a great boat for someone.

The potter 15 is an OK boat. One is in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin.  A ton of them live 'out west' as Small Craft  Adviser magazine usually favors the Potters.

However for the construction, quality and ease of not having to deal with a centerboard my pick is the Com-Pac 19. Can't go wrong. skip.

i almost bought a cape dory 16 from a retiring gentleman in rockport, texas. gorgeous little vessel kept immaculate by sir.

we got to talking and he told me he used to have a potter and he'd not recommend it to anyone due to once getting swamped in a situation his dory would have bobbed through.

he does live on the coast, though.

   i went with a 16 for two reasons ----one garage space, i wanted to avoid the winter time outside storage concern and two---i found a real nice 81 compac 16 for 1600 that i couldnt pass up. my needs were mostly for a daysailer not an overnighter

From sailing along side Potter sailboats, my opinion is that the ComPacs are built and outfitted better and are more comfortable to sit in than comparable Potter's. More importantly, there are lots of documented reports about Potter's turning over due to their hull design. I too find the find the ease of a fixed keel a wonderful thing.

I owned and had 5 great years sailing a CP16 - teriffic boats! I just moved up to a CP19 and can't wait until next season. ComPac makes great boats, no matter what size!
