Halyard winch question

The winch attached to my mast is mounted on the port side.  Is this correct and is my port side halyard used for the jib?  I know this sounds stupid, but I'd rather ask than assume.

Thanks in advance!

Originally the port side is the jib halyard side with the main halyard on the starboard side. But, I don't really think it makes a difference which side you use as the entire set up seems symetrical.

I have a roller furling jib so I don't use the jib side halyard. I think you could even cross the lines without a problem if you wanted to use the starboard side sheave at the top of the mast for your main and still use the winch on the port side.

We do find the main halyard could use a winch for the last few inches, however my wife uses a pair of sailing gloves and the "armstrong" method.

All on the portside of the cabin as per factory; I use is the halyard on the port side to raise the main. Starboard side the headsail furler.
I put a pulley on the ring at the masthead, a block at the base, an organizer on the cabin top, and rope clutch at line end for the spinnaker, and shootbag on the starboard side of the cabin. skip.

JustStartin,
If you are using hanked on jib or a furler that requires use of your existing jib halyard then use the port side for that halyard, otherwise the halyard will cross the sail track on the mast. I didn't look closely at the sheaves on the truck but you may be able to use only one sheave and run the halyard internally - use a halyard exit near the deck and route through your existing block organizer and winch.
If you need a break from it all, then pull some strings and go sailing.

I just checked the original manual that came with my CP 19. It says to "use the starboard masthead sheave for the main halyard and the port side for the jib halyard".

Again, I think it makes no difference, but that is what the manual states for my 1983 CP19!

No difference, just don't tangle 'em up.

Something had to be said in the manual and if the port/starboard is not specified, then someone will surly call the factory.

I actually put up the stick only to find that I had to toss a heaving line over the spreader and pull a halyard from one side of the mast to the other side of the mast through the triangle created by the standing rigging to make it all work. Too big a hurry I guess. skip.
