Trailer Hitch Extender

I like M Smith's extender better.  It looks like it would feel more stable than my method.  I'll try that next.

Be sure to make the hole opposite the hitch as close to the end as you can... this allows you to attach that end first and not have to lift the entire piece paralell to the tongue before inserting any pins.  I like to use the ratchet on the hold-down strap to lift it into place for storage and to hold it in place while pulling the pins to deploy.  This rig is strong enough to walk down to hook on the bow ring to the ratchet.  The only problem I have now is that I sometimes get the trailer too deep and after ligning up the boat.. I have to pull forward a foot or so to make good contact.  I haven't gotten the wheels of the van wet since making this extension.  

By the Way.... Gill, it's nice to know someone else who does museum interactives... that's my gig also... along with producing digital content (films, DVDs, and other media) for the exhibits. 8)
