tilt trailer

I have a cp16 1981.  I was wondering if any one uses the tilt feature on trailer when launching or picking up.

   i have the same boat and trailer and have never tilted it. i really dont see the benefit. i look forward to your responses

Haven't tilted mine yet to get the 16 on or off.

I owned and sailed a 1990 CP16 for 5 yrs. Never used the tilt either- no need.

In my opinion it is not only not needed for launching, but detrimental to launching as the stern of the boat floats sooner than the bow due to the angle of the ramp.  I welded mine solid which reduces noise and some lateral movement due to the clearance between the tongue and the portion which fits over it.  Some folks have used it to slide the boat off onto the ground to work on the bottom though, but if that is not in your plans I can see no use for the tilt feature at all.

I have used the tilt when I'm launching at low tide on a shallow ramp. I'm frankly not certain it has ever helped as I usually end up getting my exhaust close enough to the water that it blows bubbles.

I have finally learned that given a choice, load and unload at high tide, it makes life much easier. Ultimately, I have eliminated most of the problem as I have a shallow slip and can keep it wet all season. This year I'm going to learn from last year, pull it and power wash the bottom mid season to clean up anything that the paint allows to grow.

I have pretty poor launch site for sail boats in my area, makes sense that tilt wouldn't help for all the reasons you give for not using. Steep ramp and stern floating off first. I'll stick to wading in and pushing bow off.

I never use the tilt , but I have a extension to help dunk the trailer.   HAPPY SAILING  BILL

Have never used mine either and the Trailer extension was the very first boat project I did.  I walk down the tongue and back up right into the open back of the van.

I just completed a project adding vertical PVC guides to the trailer... I did it mostly to mount the lights... I got tired of replacing the lights... (three times in four years) so I bought a new set of LED lights and mounted them to the tops of the guides, so now they are high and dry with the boat floating off.  Pics to come soon.

Thanks for info and ideas.  One quesion do you keep the jack wheel down when launching with extension or is extensions strong enough for load. Not that there seems to be that much weight on the 16s.
