Gent and Ladies -

Its official!!  I've got the winter blues.  I went down to work on S'go (CP19II) this afternoon after the obligatory honey-dos around the house.  The temp was 49^f; 6-8 knot steady breeze out of the NW and I was going for a sail!

Well, when the wind is out of the NW I do not attempt to sail from or to my dock singlehanded.   I spent 30 minutes checking every thing out, bending on the sails, ready to go and - POOOP! the plastic fuel line connector broke, and even though I had a spare connector it was too cold to get the barb in the fuel hose.  Ergo no outboard, no sailing.

C'mon warmer weather.

i got pretty close to taking my 16 out the other day, but then i remembered that at my lake they pull up the docks for the winter. so no dock no sailing. at least i know my outboard works, started it at home. come on spring

Hey Tim and Roland:
Where do you guys live? Here in NJ, we've really got the winter blues...our ships are out and on the hard.
At least I can row...anyday on the water is a good day!

Hey guys,
I'm here with the Winter Blues, Florida style..... 76 degrees, sunny day, winds from the NW at 12K and I am sitting in a client's office, still 19 days away from my scheduled departure date. Very hard to keep my mind on work.

roland cobine

ok all of you north of the mason dixon line---raise your hand if you want to hear about 76 degrees

Bob23

An interesting fact about the Mason-Dixon line. If it continued East it would have intersected Southern NJ. I havn't verified this but it sounds cool.
As for me, I'll take 76 degrees but recently we've had teens. I work outside so I really get to enjoy it! Let's you know your alive!!!!

winter blues got me today. i took all the wood off of my 16 sanded and refinished it. it was 73 at 1pm. at 3 it was 21 with 50 mph winds. think ill work on the wood in the basement. come on spring. they forcast 8 inches of snow tommorrow. son of a  %$^%$#@$

Bob23

I woundn't mind 8 inches of the white stuff. Here in southern NJ, we have miles upon miles of trails in the Pine Barrens...great cross country ski trails.
Gotta do something while not sailing!
Bob23 on the hard praying for snow and spring, not in that order!

Well Bob, You may just get your wish today & Tomorrow.

On Sunday, the winds here at Smith Mountain Lake, are suppoed to be 4MPH - WSW the temp at 56F and sunny.  The gas line is fixed (though not needed with those wind directions and velocities) & I'm expecting to take a pre-Superbowl sail.

SML is in SW Virginia near Roanoke for the mid-atlantic challenged. South of the M-D line.  ;>)}.

Well it's good to know that there exists no perfect place... at least not all the time anyway.
We've been experiencing radical temp shifts of late...  but... one thing we can count on here in the New Orleans area... it will be unbearably hot from the end of June untill the end of September... hot enough to burn yourself if your skin touches the deck... humid enough to drip with sweat with no hope for a cooling evaporating breeze... still... languid... no wind until the afternoon thunderstorm brings howling bursts of wind-rain-and especially threatening-Lightning.
Y'all live for spring-through-fall while we live for fall-through-spring.
A good friend of mine came up with a worthy lifetime objective... to turn "Winter" and "Summer" into VERBS... that is to say "we winter in the South and summer in the North"... nice thought... but other than the month away to cooler climes in July/Aug, we still have to return to the rediculously early back-to-school startup on August 11th!  Whatever happened to school resuming after Labor Day?   But don't let me get started on that one...
Anyway, take heart my Northern compatriots... you'll soon have your day in the sun.
Cheers
Dale

Sorry guys I have can only relate to Dale. I think snow is fun to play in, but have never had to live with it.  The weather here has been perfect for sailing this last few weeks, and I have been working 7 days, taking a couple of weeks off in march, I will be sailing rain or shine.   HAPPY SAILING    BILL

Captain Smith should reamember this.  Another side to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans,  The regatta on lake Pontchatrain.  I don't know if they still have it but It was fun to go out and sail with all the other boats while the races were going on.  This was last of December first of January.  Some years that was the best time to be on the water there.  Summers were often just to hot during the day, although many evenings when the lake effect was working night sailing was a real happening on the lake front. Since those days I have sailed in the north west and wherever I went I would be the only one out at night.  I,m now in Arkansas and have a cp16 1981. Have been out a couple times this April and looking forward to many more good sails.

Good sailing to all
