Hi There,

I am a new owner of a 1976 CP16.   I was wondering if someone here could give me a little help.

The previous owner removed the hardware for the forestay to deck attachment.  How is it attached?  If someone has a photo, that would be just fantastic.

Also, how much tension goes on the shrouds?

Thanks,
Robert

I own a 1983 CP-16 but it should be the same. The forestay and jib attach to the hull to two tangs about 8 inches long. These sandwich together and fit between the hull and rubrail bow brass piece. Below the rubrail are 2 holes that the tangs through bolt to the inside with a narrow stainless backing plate. Above the rubrail the two tangs bend slightly to the rear.  The rear most plate is for the jib. The forward one is for the forestay. (They are spaced about an inch apart at the top.)
For tension I block the trailer hitch to make it level, also back- as trailer may flip back when raising mast! or just hitch to vehicle.  With boom off- attach side stays, bolt bottom of mast, raise and attach forestay. Adjust stays so they are not floppy but not too tight. ( mast perpendicular) Insert cotter pins in turnbuckle holes. To save time I trailer with side stays attached and just raise mast, bolt bottom and pin forestay.

Hi Robert,  good to see a 16 find a good home and put back to use doing what it is meant to do, SAILING. You should have turnbuckles on the rigging to connect to the chainplates (stainless plates on the hull) the bow should look the same as the sides with two plates as mike said one for the rig and one for the jib. If this doesn't help post some more questions, we want all old 16's to be seaworthy.  BILL

Thank you for your replies.  This helped me figure out how to get it stepped.  I was missing one of the pins/rings for the turnbuckle is all.

Thank you for your assistance.
