COMPAC CONVERGENACE 2008 UPDATE!

TO ALL:
The original date we set for the Convergence was August 16. However, K3vin can't make it, I will be out happily recovering from rotator cuff surgery and Bruce Springsteen, the main act told me the other day while we were having coffee, that he can't make it either. Something about a busy schedule. Right!
How about June 20, 21?  Still be near a full moon. For me it's a squeeze 'cause I go under the knife on the 25th but b'gosh I'll just have to pull Koinonia out on the 23rd. Cutting it close. Does this sound ok?
Just to be clear, there is no planned itinerary other than just show up, plan to have fun, plan to relax, plan to relax while having fun...you get the idea. Location should be the same- Tice's Shoals, Island Beach State Park, Barnegat Light, NJ.
And, best of all, you don't need to be a Compac owner to attend. You just are obligated to buy the real Compac owners all their beer, wax their boats, and tune up their motors. Small price to pay to attend! I'll speak to Bruce and hopefully, he and the E Street party pontoon boat will be there. Heck, maybe he'll bring the beer!
   Whadasay?
   Bob23, planning, conniving and scheming!

Hi Bob,
If I can get someone to sail down with me, Koinonia's twin and I'll be there.  I'm not too confident about sailing down the coast alone yet.

Any experienced sailors want to hitch a ride from Northern Jersey?

Congrats on your Monday launch. No wonder Mondays are your days! Love to sail down but don't see how I'd do it. Hope to see you there,

Sherie:
If you sailed down, would you come around the Hook and down to Barnegat Inlet? How long would that take? Or would you come in Manasquan Inlet and down through the Canal to upper Banegat Bay and evenually to Tice's Shoals?
Bob23, navigatin' again.

Mundaysj

Hi Bob,
I'm not too sure how long it would take.  Looking at my chart, I think I would probably sail down to Barnegat Inlet and then North to Tice's Shoal.  I'll have to do some calculations to figure out how long it would take.
How many boats will be able to make the new date?
Regards,
Sherie

Sherie:
Don't know how many boats will be there. I'm sure gonna try to overnight Friday through Sunday, weather permitting. I've had interest from 2 or 3 guys from down my way and a few from up from the Toms River area.
Remember, this is no big, planned event; don't let the official sounding name mislead you. It's just a bunch of us Compac-tors (and wannabees) who get togther, eat some, drink a bit, swim some more and just generally veg out. My job is a bit fast paced at times so I like to shift to a lower gear- sailing does just that.
   How's the twin?
   Bob23, planning to sail tomorrow!

CRUCIAL SUPER IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!
Well, not really, but that got your attention, didn't it?
The 20th and 21st is upon us. Weather looks ok...I will be overnighting at Tice's Shoals on Friday and just generally hanging around on Saturday. Any one who plans on attending this gala event, look for the 200 foot party barge with 3 stages, elevated pyrotechnics platform and oversized open bar with larger than life inflated Jimmy Buffet balloon kite! Can't miss it!
Jimmy himself may be flying in to sign autographs for his new book!
If you miss all that, I'll be the Compac 23 with the Walker Bay dingy following.
Bob23, longing to sail...maybe today after a stint at the salt mines!

Mundaysj

I'm afraid I won't be able to make it.  Our yacht club has a weekend cruise that I'm going to attend.  It is just sailing across the bay, so it should be just right for my first cruise.  I'll be there in spirit!  Have a great time!

Enjoy the cruise. How is the twin?
We'll look for your spirit, but they are a bit elusive.
Bob23
( I just answered my own question.) I remembered that you had posted photos...the twin is beautiful! I like the blonde strip below the rub rail.
By the way, what is your hull number? Maybe they are twins!!
Max looks more at home than our Red Siberian Husky, "Scarlet". Not a water dog at all.
Best to you in this new endeavor!

Bob,

I need to read this site more often.  June 21 is my son's high school graduation so I can't make it.

Have a great sail.

btw- We also had a red siberian husky.  Not a salt water dog but went in the stream here in CT given a chance.  She must have been a fresh water husky.  Need the salt water kind for sailing.

So... how was it?  Do you have pictures to post?  Mine was a bit of a learning experience... read my Blond Ambition part 3 for details.  I'll check my hull number this weekend and we'll find out if we are really twins!!
Happy Sails,
Sherie

Don't know...work got in the way. Long story.
