I was just reading some old posts about  homemade roller furling for a CP-16 does anyone have the plans for how to do this? or any thoughts? I would like to try this on Sojourner
Thanks

Dan,
I'm not sure if this is the one you are referring to, but here is one from the "articles" section of this forum:

Hope this helps,

So, I know some people think it is overkill, (including my H) but I am thinking about trying to make Greg Cowan's Roller Furling -- it's really cheap to try & I think would be great on those really choppy days on the bay.

!) I understand the instructions (almost completely) but saw somewhere recently (and can't find again) someone who said that their system kept breaking at the couplers -- so they were going to use a single piece of PVC.  This seems logical to me, does anyone see any reason why it wouldn't work?  (in the plans, it says to cut the PVC and use a coupler where you would attach each hank, and drill a hole in the coupler to attach the hank through to the forestay -- I would just drill the whole at the appropriate place on the full length PVC.)

2) I need to take our jib to a sailmaker to fix a grommet, and will ask them about modifying the sail -- do you think they should know what to do, or do I tell them to sew weather resistant fabric where the sail will be exposed when furled?

I like this spool modification:

Here are the original instructions:

As always -- thanks in advance for your guidance & help.

i built a roller furler for my 16 and it works perfect. in my oppinoin better than a jib down haul and much better than going out on the deck singlehanded in heavy weather. unlike the previous home made ones i took the hanks off the sail and directly mounted it to the pvc with heavy wire ties which i epoxied on to the pvc to prevent it rotating. e mail me at rocobine1@yahoo and i will provide pics.

Thanks Skip.  I went to the website and found the back issue but it is sold out.  I have the instructions already, but I wonder if the article had pictures.  Were you able to scan it?

Thanks!

Here's a similar one that a fellow made for a Guppy 13.  Perhaps it'll provide some more insight.
