Hello, My name is Phil Nugent,I live in Muskegon MI. We are about to become the proud owners of a CP-23 hull# 250.I have been ghosting here for a while,I told myself I wasnt going to say anything until we had the boat for sure.Well everything isnt final yet but its getting closer.I was in the Navy in the 80s and during that time I got my private pilots license so sailing to me just makes sense, after all its like flying a airplane side ways, right?Me and my wife were looking at larger boats that we picked out and the broker was taking pictures of this 23 for their web site.He invited my wife on board to look at it.She asked me if I wanted to climb aboard and check it out and I just thought to myself this thing isnt even close to what we were looking for. After about 5 mins she said you have to come check this out.So I did and the rest is history. It needs a few little things but for its age its in good shape.Call us crazy but for the last couple of weeks we have been seriously talking about getting rid of all our stuff and towing the boat to Florida and taking off on a indefinite cruise.I know there is a lot to learn and get ready but I think its worth a shot.I would rather try and fail than never try at all.I will try to update our progress as we go.

Wellcome.  And good luck with the new boat!

Wow, you are much like us.  My wife picked out Molly, against my initial reservations about the condition of the boat.  We talk about taking the boat on an extended (4-8 weeks) cruise all the time.  Maybe in 18 months.

Congratulation Phil,

After restoring antique cars for 25 years I decided to follow my life long passion to sail, sold off my first antique car to buy my first boat and now selling off another to pay for my new (used) Eclipse 21.

I just was to sail and be on my boat as much as I can.

So, sell off what you have to and enjoy life !

You know its funny,my wife has been on a live aboard forum and everyone tells her to get a bigger boat, the boat isnt built for what we want to do with it,the cabin is to small, open cockpit, ect, ect ect.Of course these are the same people that are complaining about their 42 ft being to small. We went and visited the boat last weekend and they had it sitting next to a 37ft catalina, it made it look quite small but I still would much rather have the compac.

Welcome aboard nuge, Every WANTS a bigger boat, but it is not always practical. The 23 is a great boat. HAPPY SAILING   BILL

Phil:
Congats! I am the proud owner of a 1985 23/2, #321 and I love her! Unfortunately, my wife doesn't share my love of sailing, so most of my sailing is done with friends or solo. That's fine because quiet, contemplative time alone is rare these days so I appreciate every moment.
I think that the 23 is ideal for the kind of crusing you have in mind. I remember reading the cruising adventures of the Martin family a while back in Good Old Boat magazine. These are world cruisers. I don't remember thier first boat, but do remember that it did not have standing headroom! This is a family of 5! Well worh getting the back issues. I think Dave martin has written a book about thier adventures; I may get it for Christmas if I'm good!
I recently turned down an irrrestable deal on a Compac 27. The boat was beautiful and priced at less than half of market value because the owner had to sell. After careful consideration, I realized that my 23 fits my needs just fine. It's good to keep things simple. There's always a voice telling us bigger is better. I guess you just have to decide which voice to listen to!
Best of adventures to you, Phil, on your 23! Keep us posted!
