Glenn,

I have a few things up my sleeve for the off season.  But let me tell you what I did before this season.  This was my first season with "Blue Heaven", I had her drydocked for 14 months prior to launching her, and this is what I did; new main sail and cover, new ida rudder, new halyard and sheets, refinished the tiller, added custom teak hatch boards, painted the interior, caulked the hull and deck joint, applied graphics, cleaned and cetoled all teak, buffed and polished the hull, installed teak and holly floor and ice box, replaced the 1986 Tohatsu with a 4 stroke 5 Hp Honda.  She  looks great and is bone dry!   The previous owner framed out the portholes in oak, which is a really nice upgrade. There are pictures in my album "fansbro"

This off season I plan on fixing the rudder wobble with brass bushings, my genoa will be traveling to sail care for cleaning, resin and the sunbrella cover needs stitching.  I want to poly-glo the hull, and add a cam cleat for more control of the roller furling line, and rewire the mast light(does not work, and it has new bulb).  If money permits I may add a teak grate to the cockpit floor.
How about you?

Hi Fransbro,

You certainly put a lot of effort, time and money into her but I expect she looks like a new boat , you can be proud of her and what you have done to get her in such prestine condition.

Last night I was working on my 2006 Eclipse, I had what I believe to have been a lot of play or slop in my rudder "foil type rudder".

I discovered two things,

1. the bearing was missing from the top pivot bolt, replaced it and it works fine
    know.

2. this is more concerning to me.....On the rudder mount itself that attaches to the
boat, there are 8 bolts to secure it in place. 5 of the 8 bolts turn freely, only 3
top bolts seem to be holding !

I slid one bolt out just using my fingers, the threads look okay, there is no sealant on these bolts. the good news if any, the holes all look dry with no evidence of water damage.

I have two inspection plates on the deck but I don't think I can see where these bolts should be anchoring act, I don't know if there are nuts or a threaded backing plate for the bolts to attach to.

I also don't think I can get my arm in far enough to have my hand reach back in there to feel what there is to feel ?

I don't want to sail her with only 3 bolts properly in place, thats a lot of stress on the rudder mount.

So.........any Ideas before I contact Com Pac ?
