i have some questions regarding sail restoration.   i know i read something here  but cant find it. anyway i think my main is in need and seems to me i read something about a company who restores and "coats" sails. the process returns them in stiff near new condition. any information would be appreciated.

maybe??

Had our main, jib, and geny done last winter. Turned out good overall, but I did still notice some stiching that was loose, and a couply small holes I thought they would have fixed. Was some mixups in shipping them back to us, and some things that were in the estimate like reset the bolt rope were never done (but we wern't charged for that either).. So I know there's nothing but good to read about them here, our experience left me middle fence.

We haven't used these guys yet -- but we have inquired of a few things over the last several years and recently inquired again about a few things and they seem to be really knowledgeable (we have a few grommets to fix & I also inquired about modifying our sail for a furling system) -- (another story -- I think I am looking into a jib sock now).

We stopped by their shop a few years ago -- on our way back from sailing lessons :) --  and it was a pretty huge place.

Here is a link to their website, but it looks kind of like they are a subsidiary or something of north sails, but they have their own web address, not sure exactly but I am sure they would explain if called -- or I guess you could go to northsails.com

Hope this helps!

I sent the original sails of my 1985 23/2 to Sailcare 2 winters ago and they came back nice and crispy. I would highly recommend them...they are honest, good folks.
That being said, thier process won't make an old, rinkly sail into a new crispy sail. That is, the rejuvenated sail won't last as long as a brand new sail. This summer, I noticed that my main was getting a bit baggy (like it's owner?) and I'm probably gonna break the bank this winter for new sails. 23 years is a long time...way past a sails normal life span. But if you are trying to eek out a bit more life, Sailcare is the way to go!
