Hello!
I've been sailing my CP 16 all summer and it's been great!!!  Even trailored it up to Bayfield, WI, then spent the night on it with my girlfriend in Madeline Island and we had a blast.  Next year we're planning longer trips!  I have the common problem of leaking scuppers in my aft bilge when it's loaded down but I'll work on that this winter.  Main problem I'd like to upgrade is:

My main sail is totally a baggy POS.  I'd like to order a brand new one.  Was wondering what to tell the sail maker (measurements?).

My headsail is a roller furling type and I like it but was wondering what my options were here.  Dont laugh but I dont know the difference between a jib and a genoa and think the genny is larger? which would be great for me.  sometimes I feel pretty underpowered.   Well any help would be great!!

Plus:  what does anyone use for a dingy>???  SOmething inflatable?

I have had a lot of luck with www.porpoisesailing.com

I have a cp 23' and I got a  main sail used very little for less than half of a new one.

I also got a working jib.

Measure your luff the part that goes into the mast and the foot that  goes into the boom, then the leach which is the slanted outside rear or diagonal outside..
He may not have a com-pac sail but a sail the same size will work. The San Juan 21 has the same size sail as my 23'. If you buy a sail and don't like it you can return it. If you are a purist that may not be a good thing but I really like the sails I have better than the originals plus I saved about 1000 dollars.   He will find you a sail if he does not have one.
Also the other best deals on Earth are at Bacon sails. You can get a good used main for a CP 16' for less than 200.00 dollars. A friend has a 16 and got a set 3 sails for 350.00

Did you ever get those sails?

I'd like to bring my 16 up to the big water one day, but we keep it in Peppin. A little too lazy to trailer I guess.

Last year I bought new sails from National Sail Supply in Florida.  They are one of several US distributors for  Rolly Tasker Sails.  I was very pleased.   I measured the old sails that came with the boat when bought it used, but National had slightly differnt measurements in their files.  I went with their measurents and think it's a better fit , at least for my 1997 fits just right.   Small working jib was I = 11.25, J = 7.6 .  Main P = 15.25 and E = 7.5 .

I've had a lot of sailboats and sails, and for this little boat, I'm very pleased with these sails, nice 5 oz cloth, Fully battened main (nice feature), slugs on the luff, leachline, telltales, bag, but i skipped  the cunningham  and skipped reefpoints (looks stormy in our little 16, we just head in!  Can't see staying out would be much fun in this little guy) Jib was hank on (not roller furling) also  5 oz, and plastic piston type hanks, whish are fine.   $172 jib, $337 main, 3 weeks.   Very nice workmanship.
