daydreaming about a Com-Pac for sale

Well, as they say, the grass is always greener...and then there's the fact that I'm probably certifiably (sail)boat nuts! At the very least, I'm the "boat lady" as you'll see the wonderful Gerry Hutchins once called me -- see screenshot, below, from an email he sent to me.

Anyhow...this 1997 Com-Pac 27 for sale firstly makes me nostalgic for her little sisters -- my former Com-Pac 23 MK IV, SV Charm and my Com-Pac 25, SV Solitude -- they were both the same color scheme as this beautiful 27...

...oh my, if wishes were horses...(ummm...sailboats?)...and if only I lived someplace near skilled/professional services for sailors...

...and, yeah, if I was maybe at least ten years younger...

...oh well...it's fun to daydream!

Well Michelle, for some there is no cure....I suffer from the same malady.

Thinking back to my early days, the squad of close friends I used to sail with in my early twenties have all managed to cure themselves of this malady and no longer sail.  They've either abandoned the water or moved to the dark side.  My next birthday will bring 80 years on the planet and I cant seem to find the cure.

I wonder about the trajectory of people my age who continue.  In my case it was smaller boats growing as family size and financial stability made larger boats necessary and possible. And then, downsizing as age made it more difficult to handle the larger boats without crew. My favorite on the curve was not a Compac but a Columbia 8.7 (29') an Alan Payne design known as the "wide body super cruiser" that sailed as quiet as a stealth plane because of the wineglass stern section. It was an outstanding sailing vessel and had lots of both cockpit and cabin room.

In those early days our "sailing squad" benefited from the arrival of a couple in their late sixties who wanted to keep sailing and welcomed we twenty something couples as friends, crew, maintainers and, in many ways, students. I would welcome the same arrangement but have not been successful to date.

BTW I saw on craiglist recently a Compac 27 (listed as a Hutchins 30) that was "free".  But you do know that the one statistically relevant characteristic of a "free" boat is that you will not be able to afford it.

Yeah, and this beauty is for sale in my neighborhood, possibly the nicest one on the planet.

If I had the desire for a cruising Com-Pac, this is one I would look at seriously. Has been for sail for a over a year, perhaps it is a bit overpriced, but I can imagine that if a new one were available similarly equipped, that it would be much more expensive.

Make an offer they can't refuse ;)

If I only lived near a larger body of water
If I only had a reliable crew
If only I was about 10 years younger :-)
