Bowsprit for a 1979 23

Can you retrofit the 1979 original 23 for a bowsprit.
Anyone have the 1979 23 that can help with the updates I am considering?

Yes the bowsprit is easy to add and can be completed in one day.
This was one of the upgrades that  I have completed on my 1982 hull # 181.
(1) Remove the old chain plates and bow eye.
(2) Fill holes with epoxy resin and high density filler.
(3) Hold bowsprit in place, and tie with a line to the bow pulpit.
(4) Drill six holes in side of toerail using the bowsprit for hole location.
(5) Seal with 5200 and bolt in place.
(6) Loosed bobstay, attach to bowsprit and chainplate.
(7) Drill new holes for chainplate.
( Seal with 5200 and bolt in place using a backing support.

The old bow pulpit, and headstay will need to be replaced.
The cost is about $1,100 all parts can be purchased from Hutchins

Skip here, I'm not sure why the old fwd standing stay needs to be replaced when adding a bowsprit...because on the CP-19 that I put a bowsprit on, the bowsprit raises slightly at it's most fwd point. And this rise allows the original fwd stay to 'meet' the bowsprit, or at least this works fine on a CP-19.

The hardest part about the job is removing and reinstalling the eye used to winch the boat onto the trailer. This was the location to land the dolphin cable from the hull to the bow sprit. It is really gooped in there and the nuts are turned out one flat at a time. Then heat and beat till the eyes starts to move.

As for the old bow pulpit, again on the CP-19 this remained unchanged at the fwd sail grazes slightly above the tact.

But to be fair new CP-19's designed with bowsprit also have the same 'grazing on the pulpit'.
So I see no need to change that either. I could be wrong but I can't fathom the extra trouble of a new pulpit yielding any extra speed. Looks better though I'd guess.

The new headstay is 4 in. longer than the original, and the headstay will be forword of the old pulpid.
