Second time around

Just acquired a very clean '83 Compac 16, rechristined Sloop du Jour.  This is my second time around. In the 90s I had a '78 in moderately good shape, though the bunk plywood was rotted.  I sailed it into a submerged concrete seawall, knocked a hole in the bottom corner of the keel, and could never get the water to drain out.  Not going near that thing this time.  Snow (in Pensacola!) suspended my navigation lights project; don't expect to get it in the water until March at the earliest.

   Congrats on Sloop du Jour— looking forward to hearing about your adventures! Curious when Pensacola last had snow before the most recent snowfall — how much did you get? Yeah, the incident with the submerged concrete seawall sounds scary — yikes!!!

Sounds like fun.  I'm still sailing a 1981 16 with my g-kids. My Daughters grew up in that boat, then advanced to bigger craft.  I entertained selling it to a good old friend, who originally sold me the boat as a dealer, south of Detroit.  I was told in no uncertain terms that I would be keel hauled if I did that.  How long can you hold your breath under an 18" draft boat?  LOL.

Rats!  Well, I shouldn't have expected that nobody would already have hit on Sloop Ju Jour.  Back in the Chrysler 20 days, I took my son and his girlfriend out and as we motored toward the bay I took off my watch and slipped it over the tiller.  I had early on taught him about puns and he had become a holy terror with them,  He commented that that was a good place to put my watch and then at the same instant, we both shouted "For tilling time!" 

He died 12/25/93.  Maybe I should name mine Tilling Time.
