Center of the Compac Universe?

Is Oriental, NC the center of the Compac universe?  No, probably not.  I'm sure there are way more Compacs somewhere in a Florida town, but it seems I can't go anywhere without seeing a Compac.  To start, back in March of 2015 when we came to Oriental to look at property, the very first sailboat I spotted was a Compac 19.  It was an omen that we would eventually retire here.  Then just down the street from the first lot we put money on sat a Compac 16 cb version.  I ride my bicycle past a Suncat daily, and last week I spotted a Daycat in a yard.   Three weeks ago I saw a Legacy in a slip at a marina I was considering, and today while out riding I spotted another Legacy on it's trailer in a yard.  I know of two 19s that sail here, a 27, and there's a 23 Pilothouse berthed at the Oriental Yact Club docks.  A gentleman I've met twice ttold me he knows of two 16s that he owned and sold that ply the waters around Oriental.  He even told me about a beautiful green 23 sitting a trailer in an empty lot.  I had to chuclke and inform that it was my 19 he was admiring.  "A 19?
It looks larger on the trailer.  Why the hell don't you have it in the water at your dock"?

When the house is built and we're all moved in, I'm going to have a Compac Rally of some sorts here.

It sounds like Heaven to me, Carl! I am so happy for you and your wife to be in such cool digs! If you have a rally, I'll trailer my Legacy, Sunny, there — I'm in!  8)  :)

A Crazy rally sponsored by Crazy Carl? What possibly could go wrong! I'm already packing! I'll trailer the infamous guideboat "Straggler" down thar and I'll bring along some good old NJ PBR!

Carl - if you add in all the Com-Pacs within a 30 mile radius (New Bern, Beaufort, Washington, Bath, Belhaven) it's an even bigger community.

Not entirely an accident, due to the influence of Keith Scott at The Sailboat Company in Richlands, a short drive from Oriental. Keith has sold many of those boats, some more than once. He's also organized quite a few Com-Pac meetups in the area over the years. Keith is well into his 80s and has slowed down, but still knows more about our boats than anyone I know.

I think you'd get a strong positive response if you organized a CP event in Oriental!
