Rudder replacement: would you use a non-Com-Pac rudder?

I've got a Com-Pac 27 and need to replace the rudder. It got torn up beyond repair when getting towed off a sandbar after running aground.

Com-Pac will have to manufacture a new rudder that will be expensive and take nearly a month. A salvage yard that specializes in rudders has one they claim will work. I realize no one can answer this definitively without knowing the dimensions and characteristics of the proposed replacement, but is anyone willing to offer tips or insight that will guide me on how to consider this decision? Are there certain traits that it absolutely must have or must not have for me to seriously consider using the replacement from the salvage yard?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer sorting this through.
