Making new Trailer Bunks

My next project is redoing the bunks on my trailer.  Most of the howto article I've read say to use 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 kiln dried treated lumber covered in material.  But dimensional lumber that thick doesn't have much flex over an 8 foot run, and results in hull contact over less than a quarter of the bunk length.  So what I'm thinking of doing is using 2 1 x 4s on each side.  I'll flex one to the curve of the bilge and then attach it to the support brackets and then glue the second to the top of it following the same curve.  Am I just making something reasonably simple hard, or is there value in doing it this way?

Geeman,
I just replaced one bunkboard (& the other is pending) using an off the rack treated 2x4 from Lowes.  Initially, the bend in the board is more substantial than one would think, & over time it increases, kind of molding itself to the hull.

I used 5/4 X 6 treated pine deck boards on my 19.  They formed right to the hull and worked like a charm.

we used Atex plastic(5/4" by 5.75") decking covered with the appropriate "carpet" material held with SS screws and washers...good flex and no water worries...what da yous all think?
