One of those better days

After finding no room at the ramps the previous weekend, I decided to get an earlier start...Friday morning instead of Saturday (I had the day off).  I drove to Beaufort & the ramp on Taylor's Creek had plenty of space. The tide was turning so I didn't have to
fight the current as I motored east toward Harker's Island.  Once in the sound, the winds were light, but increased during the day.  I sailed to the inlet, then back down Shackleford Bank, pulling up on a sandbar for lunch & a swim.  I went around Middle Marsh to get back to Taylor Creek, mostly to reacquaint myself with the narrow channel between Harker's Island to Beaufort.  I've got some time off at the end of the month & would like to go out to Cape Lookout for a couple of days & that is a safe route if it is too rough to go outside.  I did OK with the channel, but did bump a couple of times.  A low key day with full sails & open water...as it should be.

Hi Mike.

A perfect description of the simplicity of sailing a small yacht. Thank you...sounded like you had a great stress free day!

Sounds like a nice day. Cape Lookout is on my shortlist of cruises.
Cheers!

Probably the most beautiful spot that I've dropped the hook. It is a great trip for a c-16, especially if you can do it during the week.

I avoid public ramps on weekends as a general rule. I've waited over an hour to retrieve a boat at some ramps around Charleston (SC) on a Saturday. There are marinas with boat ramps that charge a fee but you'll save the waiting and waiting.
