Just want to introduce myself to everybody. I just picked up a 1978 model cp16. It's a little rough around the edges but I'm a fairly handy fellow so I'm not too worried. This is my first sailboat so I'll likely have a lot of questions if I can't find the answer in some books.

The boat has been gutted at some point in its life and it's sat neglected for a couple of years but I'd like to get it put together enough to go selling once or twice before I decide if I want to jump into a extensive refit. The major thing I need as of now is a Mainsail, mine is original and is heavily patched and sail taped together. And one other thing I'm located in Southeast Texas.

Welcome aboard.
I have a '76 c-16.  In discussing with with Keith Scott (NC dealer who knows A LOT about com pacs) that the early sails were very light weight & stretched out very quickly.  You could sail with a trashed main, but not very well.  There are a number of threads on where to purchase replacement sails, just do a search.

Welcome to the CPYOA, Bret!

In these august pages you will find the answers to most of your questions.  Our well oiled sailors of Com-Pac Yachts have seen the questions of many a Swabbie.

Get the boat sail worthy and sail, sail, sail.  Fall in love with your great little yacht, and the refit will be something you enjoy as much as the sailing.

Again, Welcome
