Hi guys ,

Yep joined the club. My mast came down last weekend. I was with my wife sailing off shell point fl. I should have replace the fore stay quick conned the previous owner had been using, but never gave it much thought. Well wind was up and some good sized waves and down she came. No one was hurt and my wife says she will still sail with me. So could be worse.

Minium damage. Tabernacle is bent and a small crack around the mast step but no cracks visible on the instide. The po had through bolted the tabernacle . I am thankful that didn't have more damage. These are tough little boats.

So corrective action-

Get rid of the quick connect

Put some epoxy in the crack

Replace tabernacle and fill the existing holes with marine Tex and remount using stainless screws instead of the through bolts .

Did I miss anything? Sound good?

sounds excellent, fill up that crack really good so no water gets in there....

Hi, Previously owned a Compac 16 and have a brand new tabernacle still in box shipped from Hutchins if you're interested.
Cheers,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Thanks but I just ordered one from Matt. Getting it tomorrow and going back out sailing on Saturday!

Whistlingdixie,

What type of "quick disconnect" gizmo failed you?

I imagine that some are good and other types should be avoided.

Could you post a photo?
