Where to 'loc~down that fwd sail sheet?

So I was reading a Harkin ad in Sail magazine and a tip was published.

When using a furler to shorten the head sail have the sheet pointing at the mid-point of the luff.
To do this the car may have to be moved toward the bow or stern.

I never gave this much thought as I sail full out or full in. Never used the furler to adjust the size of the 'triangle' as the centre of effort on the head sail climbs as the sail diminishes. I don't think I want power "up There" but rather keep her low, via shortening the main sail. Pull her down off the top-o-mast. But what do I know? Nothing.

Interesting point. Skip. I'll try just reefing the main. I have in the past succumbed to the easyness of reefing the genoa via roller furler. But the comment about the center of effort moving up the headsail makes sense. Thanks, Bob23, always learning

As far as actually 'loc-downing' the somewhat rolled up furler I have a small cleat bolted with a backing plate under the cleat.  This cleat is mounted on a bit of an angle, with the actual furler line fitted 'tween the two bolts and stopped with a figure 8 knot so I can't loose the line. Location of this cleat is to the out side of my cockpit combing just ahead of the winch port side. I use the line guides screwed around my stanchions.
