Introduction finally.

Hello all.
I've posted a couple of times but have not introduced myself. My name is Jim and my boat is the "Lazy Dog II", home port Bullocks Cove, Riverside Rhode Island.  I bought my 1984 Com-pac 16 last November and slowly restored it. Still have the interior to finish. First mate Benny is the original lazy dog. Next year after the interior is complete, I hope to do some multi-day trips. Would like to hear from other Rhode Islanders as well as others.

Hi Jim,

I'm not on Rhode Island but am across the pond...the small one! I'm on Long Island and have an Eclipse. I plan to sail to Block next year (Your territory) for a multi day sail.... 18 miles from montauk. Good luck with finishing the reno.

Went out today to get some experience in high winds. Forcast 10 to 15knots, with gust up to 20knots. Reefed the main and only had two thirds of the jib out. Sailed south out of the cove with a north wind. Once I cleared the mouth of Bullocks Cove I went west towards Warwick. Sailed well, only having to spill some air every now and then. Turned around, heading east, the wind was getting stronger. Rolled up the jib and tried to tack back to Lazy Dog's mooring but couldn't bring the bow across the wind without the jib doing its thing. Did a couple of jybes but was not making enough headway and the wind was increasing. Decided to take down the main and motor in. I was motoring along nicely directly into the wind and thinking and hoping that I had enough gas in the engine to get in. Placed my gas can near me and readied the lines for my jib as a back up, just in case. Well, as soon as I was near the really expensive boats the engine cut out. Grabbed the can, unscrewed the cap on the engine and thanks to who ever here recomended the No-Spill gas can, I was able to do a NASCAR worthy refill and restart. Few minutes latter was safely moored and putting every thing in order. Learned a bunch, not sure I will purposely sail in those conditions again. There was one other sail boat out there too.

Hi Jim and welcome. Very color combination with the black hull and tanbark sails! One of my favorites and when I bought new sails for my 23, I toyed with tanbark but being the Jack Benny worthy cheapskate that I am, went with white.
The 23's need the headsail up in order to tack well and I'd imagine the 16's are no different.

The hull is painted with Pettit EZPoxy 3348 Jade Green. The bottom paint is black. I painted a black field outlined with a burgundy colored vinyl stripe to mount the numbers. I did this so that when I have to paint the hull again, I won't have to redo the numbers. I'll just peal off the pin striping paint to the black number field and reapply the pin striping. Pettit paint is pretty good but is does scratch easily showing the original white hull.

It is amzing what you see when you know what something is. I knew the photo was dark, just couldn't see how dark it was till you guys pointed it out. I'll have to fire the photographer.
