clr 2018

    I'm sure everyone at the clr understands why sarah and i appeared a bit "unfocused" on rendezvous business. her mom was quite sick off and on for a few years and passed away on the 10th. i would like to take this opportunity to ask everyone to submit suggestions to me for next years event. i think we need to freshen it up a bit although i still want to have a "race" of some kind. i think using existing landmarks easily seen from the start line would work better than putting out the marks. also i am thinking that the start should be more traditional (that is under sail). each boat could be assigned start times which would eliminate the bullhorn. everyone could be given their time and basically cross the line by checking their watch. just a thought. i think starting with sails down makes it much harder for solo sailors and gives those with a crew a bit of an advantage. i have crewed in a race with bigger boats where you are told when the race will start a day ahead of time and are responsible for getting to the start line . in fact i think that group always starts their race at 130 pm on wed. i hope everyone gets in the spirit of the race as much as we did. roger and i looked it out pretty much that day. anyway send me your ideas. i want to keep the event going and hopefully growing. thanks to those who attended.

Sarah and Steve, I am really sorry to hear about Sarah's mother passing.  Its never easy to loose a relative especially your mother.  May the Lord and your family comfort you at this time.

I really like the idea of starting with the sails already up.  We could all start the race at the same time and since I will be the first one at the finish I could start timing the other arrivals to figure out who placed in second after taking in account the handicap.

Being a lover rather than a racer, I have  never tried to be the 1st to finish.

Therefore, I'll leave the race planning to those who take pride in being 1st.

  i think we definitely need a windward mark. with two marks the race could start and finish at the same place. when i placed them during the clr (just to see how visible they were) they needed to be about 1/3 mile apart. this would require a lot of laps or an abbreviated race. we could use three marks 1/3 of a mile apart (less laps). I keep hoping that we can come up with a good race plan. it should be a lot of fun but in the past it has been a bit of a pain.

  Sorry to hear about the passing of Sarahs mother. About the races for the CLR, A 1/3 or 1/2 mile equal leg triangle would work. On a lite wind day one race would work, if we had wind we could add laps or run more than one race. What ever we go with you can't please every one. That talk about going to the North Chanel sound more interesting the more I think about it.

   i think roger has a good idea. i will talk to mattman (race expert) and figure the course. i never give up and i will come up with something that is fun and works. thats a promise.

So sorry to hear of Sarah's Mother passing. We (Carol and I) have gone through it also loosing the last parent last year.  It is tough, but know that our thoughts and prayers are with you both.
