I posted a manual in the Eclipse section that I put together that has good detail on the mastender setup.  Not 100% sure if the Horizon is the exact same as the Eclipse but it should get you close.  See first post in link above.

Boat and Hardware Modification / Re: Installing Anchor Light an...

I just replaced the wiring in my 19s mast.  I Anchor 16/3. That allowed me to run a + wire to the steaming light and another to the anchor light. The - wire is connected to both. There is also the VHF antenna wire running inside the mast. When I first wired the mast, I drilled a 1/2" hole near the top & bottom of the mast. Inserting a steel rod 90° to the mast, I then pushed it down towards the mast creating a slight bulge for the wires to enter/exit. In 15 years of trailering her around, the wires never chafed.

As for sealing the mast to keep water out, it's not really necessary. If you store your boat mast down, place a plastic bag on both ends to keep wasps and birds from building nests inside it.

On a previous 19 I had installed an anchor light. I used the cable powering the steaming light and then put in a waterproof switch which was bolted to the side of the mast about 5 feet up. It was a SPDT switch. I ran another wire up to the top of the mast from the switch. I drilled a hole in the side of the mast about 6" below the top (to avoid the sheaves) and had the wire come out at that point and go up to the light. One pole of the switch powered the steaming light, the other powered the anchor light. Couldn't have them both on at the same time - but since you can never be anchored and steaming at the same time that is not a problem.

I meant all around the cabin - they are inside.

I have thought about installing string lights like that. Good to hear they work well.

Sun Cats and Sunday Cats / Re: Boom gallows removal
Last post by Semaj - September 07, 2025, 01:23:40 PM
I have a 2017 Suncat and I have removed the boom crutch or gallows on my boat because it was damaged. I removed it only to repair it but I can speak to how to removin the starboard uprightit if that is a question. The Sarboard side is more complicated because it involves removal of wiring and a stern light. At the base of the upright stainless tube are three bolts with nuts so it is not simply unscrewing the bolts. The nuts must be removed from beneath. This means someone must crawl through the storage area to put a wrench on the nuts to remove them or hold them while someone unscrews bolts from above. While  laying in that storage area the wires can be pulled through. Before pulling the the wires attach a long piece of wire or cord to the end of to wire so the wires can be pulled back through. The screws on the side support of the upright simply screw out. The wood portion can also be removed from above. My wife , who is 5'10" and petite was able to get in the storage area with little trouble.

I put a string of LED lights all the way around the cockpit hidden under the overhang. I added a dimmer and am very happy with it. They are 12v - connected to the battery. There is plenty of light for reading anywhere at full power, and nice effect when dimmed. They are indoor/outdoor so very durable and the string has adhesive on the back side so I just pressed them in place - but totally invisible.

I made my own cockpit and cabin cushions and lifeline cushions (thanks to Sailrite DIY videos). I am very happy with them and the lifeline cushions make the back feel good.
I made 4 cockpit cushions (a long one for each side and a smaller basically square one for fore and aft. This makes it easy to get to the fuel tank in the back. Having the full cushion makes it easy to move around and still be sitting in comfort. I am often single handing so tend to move around frequently.
I do store them inside (except the lifeline cushions)
