Title: Basic Electrical System Instillation
Post by: Michaeldi23 on December 07, 2006, 10:05:41 AM
I would like to install a basic electrical system on my com-pac 16'. Are there any kits that you can purchase or any ideas where to start. I would prefer solor power enough to run some lights and a radio. Thanks

I am in the process of doing just that, I started by buying a 12v circuit panel from west marine for around $40 that includes both a gauge to indicate status of battery and a 12 volt socket.  For a battery I am going to use a small sealed gel cell battery that is easily removed and re-charged.  On longer trips a small solar panel on deck will keep it charged.  I plan on running a mast light, cabin light and the GPS off the system.  Good luck, it really is not that hard.  The hard part for me was figuring out where to mount the panel.

I just replaced all of my electrical last year and used the same panel from west marine. The voltmeter is handy to keep tabs on the battery, and the power point is great for my cd/tv/boombox. I used a deep cycle battery and placed it behind the port a potty, over the keel.
