Title: New Member -- Hello to all you "old salts"!
Post by: Wayne J on November 10, 2016, 12:56:08 PM
Hello to all!
I am new to Com-Pac sailing!
I just purchased a Com-Pac 19/3 (built in 1988 #488) and she remains on the trailer until I can test the outboard and create a mast raising system.  I am in Richmond VA and have to trailer her at least an hour or so to get to a decent sailing spot.

Happy to have discovered this forum.

Welcome, Wayne!

If you have two people, no special rig is needed, just have your second person take the slack up on a line connected to the forestay as you raise the mast from the cockpit and cabin top.

Thanks Tim!  Hope to have her in the water this weekend!

Here she is with her mast up!  My friend pulled on the jib halyard while i pushed the mast up!

Richmond, VA area...Uh oh.  You're in big trouble!  There is a rowdy bunch of Compac Owners in this area.

You may want to look at the scheduled meet up in Feb. 2017.  It will probably be in the Deltaville area.  You can meet a few of us there and learn some tricks and stories.

My Compac 23 is named Saga.  She sails out of Colonial Beach, VA on the Potomac River.

Since you have a trailer you have some access to some great cruising areas.  You can trailer to Deltaville and sail across to Tangier Island in good weather.  If you want water that isn't quite as big there is my area on the Potomac River where you have tons of cool places to sail to and visit.

Welcome aboard and hopefully you will be able to attend the meet-up in Feb.

Welcome aboard Wayne!  You truly have stumbled upon a great group of folks on this forum. They are the best as are the boats. We sail out of Topping Va. (Regent Point Marina, Goggle it) Hope to see ya sometime. There are still many good days of sailing left this season and know we will be down most of this week beginning the process of winterizing a boat and taking our 16 out for sails! The Merrior Restaurant is just across Locklies Creek from our marina and a great place to visit regardless of weather you get out on the water.

Don't believe all of the scary comments made about the group of us that call the Chesapeake home, even if they are true! Do check out the CBMWG 2.0 thread to get particulars about our cheap excuse to get together with each other outside of sailing season.

OBTW, was your boat the one at Calico Jacks?

Wayne,

Great looking boat.  I just saw your post on the first sail.  I did about 6 years in Richmond in the 1980's ar VCU.  I loved the town.

Welkom aboard
