Title: Painting hull/ support boat
Post by: ilbuildit on November 30, 2006, 11:00:22 AM
I am trying to get the hull painted on my 16 done by the end of December and that won't be a problem but what I am stuck on is how am I going to support the boat and paint from the boot strap down. The sides I can paint with the boat on the trailer no problem. Anybody have any good ideas on supporting this thing without obstruction to the bottom?  I need to do this in one shot.

Lee,
Here's a link to a post by DaveBarni on how he did work on the keel of his CP19. The link is to the Yahoo Compac Owner's site;
http://ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/com-pac/photos/view/99d4?b=10
He did both his CP16 and CP19 this way...
Just search the posts there and you'll find the description.
I'll need to do the same thing when I tackle my keel blow out on
Cricket.
Hope this helps,
AJ

You know, that's exactly how I was thinking of supporting my 16 but I didn't think that the rub rail area would support it well enough. Thanks for the info.

note the concrete blocks taking most of the weight on the keel (just like trailering... the bunks are only for stabilization)

It'll balance on it's own.  Support each side with a 2x4 at the rubrail for good measure.  You can lay it on it's side, and flip it to the other side easily, even by yourself.

Wow!! Now I know that the keel works even on the ground.

                              ......only my concern is ....how do you put it back on the trailer?

Now you know why it is so important to "stay on an even keel".

To get the boat back on the trailer get a few cases of brew and invite your friends over for a party. Seriously, the hutch trailers do have a tilt feature (which few seem to use?)
