Hi All,
My wife and I just bought a CP 27. We haven't had a chance to sail it yet, as it is on the hard until spring. We can hardly wait for winter to be over and it hasn't even started yet.
Anyway, just saying hi and I'm sure to have a dumb question or two... or three...
Dennis
Nice boat! Congratulations!
This is a great place to get answers and share trips and modifications. Welcome aboard!
Where are you sailing out of?
Details, Dennis, we need details! What year? Where and from whom did you purchase? Any renovation plans? Boat name? Pictures please!
Wes
Welcome aboard Dennis! Ditto what Wes said.
There are plenty of answers here in the C-27 section of CPYOA.
regards charlie
Thanks for the warm welcome. We will be sailing out of Green Bay, WI. Pictures are on my phone and I'm posting from my iPad. I'll try to get some posted on the weekend.
Boat name is Pyxis, before that it was Reverence. We may give it a new name. I believe it's a 1986 with three ports on each side.
Funny thing happened on the way to buy a boat in Minnesota. I stopped at the South Bay marina in Green Bay to ask about getting a slip. When asked what size, I pointed to a boat on jacks and said, "about that size." The harbor master told me it was for sale. So I put in an offer and a couple days later we closed the deal.
Welcome to the CP27 club! They're a great boat, with outstanding support from the Hutchins Company.

Dennis: Fabulous story! Which just further confirms my suspicions that we don't find our Compacs, they find us!!!

yup! that's the case. Just when i though it was safe to be Compac free....Mas happens.
Welcome aboard, this is a great bunch of folks with much knowledge. One of my favorite places on this planet is up your direction in Door County. The NOAA chart 14909 show that tricky passage that gives Door it's name. Absolutely beautiful. It is also difficult for many to understand that many boats up there are already on the hard for the winter. It is the middle of sailing season here on the Chesapeake!
I'm not sure how this karma thing works. I'm looking all over the different replies to give a thanks, or karma points, or whatever. Anyway, thanks again.

Well this one certainly found me.
Don't know why I didn't think of this earlier. Here's the YachtWorld listing with pictures.

Boat looks in great shape. You will really enjoy it. What did you sail before, or this your first one?

Welcome and congrats on your new boat! We have the Karma setup in a way that only allows folks with a certain number of posts to give Karma. When you post more, you'll see the Karma options.
Once again welcome and enjoy your fine craft!

Thank you. The previous owner and his father did a great deal of work on it.
This is my first keel boat.
When I was 16, I built a pram and taught myself to sail after reading every book that the Brown County library had on the subject. I had a 19 foot Lightning for a season or two, but my first wife wanted nothing to do with it so I sold it. Since then I had an Alcort Sailcat and for the past 20 years had a 13 foot Alcort Puffer that I taught my current wife to sail and she enjoys it. I also crewed on several boats in Charlevoix, MI including a J30 and a J24.
Even though it has been a passion most of my life, I have mostly been the lone sailboat on a small lake in northern Wisconsin. I have much to learn, including coastal navigation and rules of the road.

Thanks for the welcome. I'll keep my eyes peeled for when I am Karma worthy.
Power sqaudron coarses are a good way to learn navigation, rules of the 'sea' and basic marine law.
A long standing organization run by volunteers. Not too expensive and well worh the money and time.
Nice boat! Any idea of it's history, how did it get there from Durango CO?
I am a former CP27 owner, her current owner posts once in awhile. They are great boats but sail nothing like the J boats you crewed on before. Prepare to relax a little, or a lot.
Be sure to get a good look at the bilge and be prepared to do the modifications.
For what it's worth I kick myself in the ass at least once a week for selling mine. Oh well, there's always another boat.

The previous owner lived in CO but kept the boat in Wisconsin. So this is where the boat is from.
Also, the PO's father is a wealth of information. He did a lot of work on the boat, like refinishing woodwork, etc.
