Title: sail to furler
Post by: Don Frisby on August 24, 2016, 05:36:10 AM
Hi, guys. Thinking of putting a CDI FF-2 furler on my Com-Pac 19/3. I have a 155% genoa and thought that would be the sail to attach to the furler. My big question is how do you attach the sail to the furler? Cut the hanks, re-stitch it with a fold? Please tell me that I don't need to buy ANOTHER sail specifically cut and sewn for that CDI furler. Thx, and I'll take your answer off the air.

I had a CDI furler added to RU-ACH a CP 16   The sail maker modified my existing jib by removing the hanks and adding a tape into the luff that would allow the jib to slide up into the  flexible luff extrusion of the CDI furler system.

Thx for your response, Cat's Paw. That all seems right. Was the luff tape wrapped around a 1/8" rope running along the luff or was the luff folded and then stitched?  Thx.

This is the luff tape you'll find on professionally made sails:

The two loose ends sew on the luff, the round portion slides within the furler foil.
