Title: Storm sail for CP23?
Post by: mike gartland on November 16, 2006, 02:19:43 PM
I'm interested in acquiring a storm sail for my CP23 but am not sure of the proper dimensions.  Anyone have a storm sail that works well and would be willing to share dimensions and possibly suggest a good source for purchasing one?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Mike,
I had a heavy-weather Yankee made to balance the boat with the first reef in the main.  It is not actually a true storm sail, but has worked well up to (at least) 28kt.  The sail-maker recommended against a true storm sail.  A Yankee is a small sail, so the price was relatively low.  JSI manufactured it and may still have my records from 1996.  Our first-reefed main was about 60.5 square feet.  I provided the following dimensions to JSI:
     J length: 6' 6"
     luff: 21' 6"
     leech: 15' 11"
     foot: 9' 10"
The sail maker might have taken some liberties on the actual finished design.

Ernie,

Thanks for the info.  I will contact JSI and see what they can do for me.
