Title: S/V TETRA ...A CP23 Story
Post by: K3v1n on May 28, 2016, 09:27:45 AM
After 10+ months of cleaning and repairs/upgrades she is ready for the water! [not that everything is done mind you. ;)]

With the help of Bob23 and my brother John we get her ready. The Admiral(Lesa) was in charge of the food. :)

Great video.  I've looked all over the internet to try and find a video of someone raising the mast on a CP23.  Yours may be the first.  Seems pretty straight forward. Thanks

The boat looks great for a 1983.

Good luck.

And although the two characters shown raising the mast both have less than perfect shoulders, no humans were harmed in the making of this video.

This video has confirmed that Pizza and Beer is a requirement in the annual mast raising ceremony universally - however a voice on the video mentioned she "couldn't believe it could take 2 hours" - we are just getting warmed up at the 2 hour mark - take it all in; then do several things over again the correct way because I forgot how.  Part of the allure of sailing - slow down and enjoy!

It looks like you guys had fun.  That was a good video and I like your intro.  I may have to come up with an intro for Saga now after seeing yours.

I am glad that you are in the water!

P.S. I never knew that Guinness can be used for wood polish. Great tip! :)

If you had a bike on board you'd be Tetra cycling. How asymbiotic.

Enough with the punishment, Tim.

I'm fairly sure you will have to do it again.  You made a fatal error.  You mentioned your next boat during the renaming of your current boat.  Very bad luck can only come from that.

To make amends you will have to use a wine that is twice as expensive and substitute caviar for the White Castle fare.

Hey K3vin,
Interesting that you should mention re-naming, cause we just did that thus past weekend, I left previous owner's  boat name on hull, then talked  with wife to ask what she would like,
all our "pet" nicknames seemed fine, but she was too skiddish on possible embarrassment when/if my buddies ask "what was that about, so", so we settled on a oft used term she uses referring
to our small condo home, the little cubby hole .
And shizaam! I said yes it fits, as my old CP23 has those stoggy round port holes, so ya get it ?(http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m483/Ypsi-Compac/SailorsWorkbench%20Boatworks%20and%20Dock%20rebuilds/Com-Pac%20Yacht%2023%20-%20Sailboat%20works/IMAG04661_zpse7lrajna.jpg) (http://s1128.photobucket.com/user/Ypsi-Compac/media/SailorsWorkbench%20Boatworks%20and%20Dock%20rebuilds/Com-Pac%20Yacht%2023%20-%20Sailboat%20works/IMAG04661_zpse7lrajna.jpg.html)

This is our second race. The first one was a pursuit race where we managed a 9th place finish out of 10 boats. This time around we came in dead last in 10th! But we had fun and learned a lot. :)

So....you want me to start looking for that 16 as well  :)

Well we certainly feel better knowing others swallowed the hook and leader, it's great aint it! Congrats to you guys. Make sure you bring tons of pics to CBMWG 2.0  She looks beautiful.  :)

For the record, I've been to Annapolis many times and not once came home with a boat. Maine Boatbuilders Show...now that's another story!
Kevin and Lesa's boat is just perfect, having been one of the early morning Tequila imbibers to celebrate the new boat. It's also nice that they're  search for the perfect boat has ended, until the time they get the bug to move up again at which time I will by the Cape Dory! If I don't end up with a Flicka first!

Whoa Bro Bob....it's not the point that ya come home with a boat from Annapolis, been there many times with no boat in tow, though last time we kinda did, it's that you get the want another boat bug or solidify that desire! Nuthin wrong with that, jus sayin!

As far as the Flicka, ya might wanna talk to PeterG bout that Orion! IMHO one of the most beautiful boats ever built, though the Flicka is no slouch for looks either! You're not going to go wrong with either, just be aware that once you move to such boats you will really need that 16 as well! We can certainly, at CBMWG 2.0, help you towards an early demise secondary to Admiral Linda having you walk the plank, meanwhile we are so excited for Kevin and Lesa!

Having a boat that has standing headroom and enclosed head has changed Susan's desire (mine too) to cruise and getting the 16 has changed her comfort level about captaining. (Is that a word?) Susan even helped the wife of the fellow we got the 16 from, who was trying to get his wife into sailing with little success as it was simply too small for her comfort level, understand the advantage of that bigger boat to just enjoy being aboard. They just got a Catalina 30! Say the word and I'll turn Susan loose with Linda!

No prob, Mas. As to the Flicka, there is a local neglected one who I hope is looking for a home. If it happens, fine. If not, fine also...I love my 23.
I don't think even Susan would make much progress changing Linda's mind. Tough Austrian roots.

That would be so cool if a Flicka came into your life! I loved No Mas, If it was just me, she would still be mine. Having Interlude however has oped my eyes for the dreams of distant horizons. We have different situations and it was simply time to do what we did, as at our age time is not or friend. Linda will never have her mind changed by anyone else, none of us will, she can only be placed in a position to understand a different way of looking at something. That's all Susan did with Sandy, the wife of the previous 16 owner. Ya never know! What we do know is that a cold (or even warm) Guiness is calling our names! We have to finish sorting out those dues!

Well so we don't stray too far from topic....is Deliverance now home for Kevin and Lesa? Dory's are just wonderful boats. Since it aint a Compac this will also cause some fee recalculations. I do not envy your job! another reason to get all together for CBMWG 2.0 so we can sort all of this out, heck you may even have another boat by then........hmmm.....is that conflict of interest when someone in charge of fees has to charge themselves!  :)

which will totally confuse the fee structure! Hmmm.....a CPYOA administrator without a Compac.....you will just have to get that 16 then.

For what it's worth for any folks looking to move up but keep it trailerable/transportable, barely, there more than likely will be a PSC Dana 24 for sale in the near future not far from our marina. It's an older one, but like all PSC's, well built and will make someone a sturdy, little, go anywhere boat.

Meanwhile Kevin have much fun planning those new horizons with your Cape Dory!

Whyith doth thou speakest thus? Doth the thought of yon Dana changeth thy thinking?

Ironically her name be Renaissance thus thou mayest proceed with such prose.

Alright back to topic..... so Kevin Deliverance has become Dorothea? Was it the sound of dueling banjos that caused the change!?  :)  What significance does her new name have?

Yeah, but I'd look better in a Flicka. Of course, the key to contentment is to "Be where you are" which is in my 23. Still, the restless side of me says that the poor neglected Flicka at Mariners Marina is in my future. I just need to convince the current owner of that. I know...I'll call my cousins...they can pay him a little "visit".

Well the important thing is to look good no matter what boat your in! So......as most everyone here knows we are not the folks to convince anyone they don't need that other boat!

It's ok.........!

Hmmm...wasn't this supposed to be a thread about Kevin and him selling his boat? I remember something about that. Oh yeah, S/V Tetra for sale, that's right! See what happens Kevin when you start a thread about getting another boat!!!!!! This could potentially change the fee structure forever. Really, it is the most we can do!  :)
