Title: Hello I'm a new member and Suncat owner
Post by: oceanroadus on April 19, 2016, 07:07:45 AM
Hello, I wanted to introduce myself.  We just bought a 2013 Suncat and are outfitting it for some day sailing-overnights around Homosassa-Crystal River.  It will be myself (Frank), my wife and our 2 kids (8&11) for crew.  I am a former schooner bum with lots of time as crew on big boats engaged in sail training like Ernestina, Harvey Gamage, Spirit of Massachusetts and SEA's Corwith Cramer.  That said I still have lots to learn about the modern small rigs :-).  I have sailed some modern small boats including an Ensign 22 and a good bit of canoe sailing recently but I will be looking for advice and recommendations from the forum.  Glad to be involved and looking forward to sailing with a gaff rig again!

Hello Frank, We are also Sun Cat owners in Central Florida. We have a 2001 and love the boat. We may meet sometime in the near future, the boats name is "Gatito" Spanish for small cat or kitten.

We trailer sail all over central Florida. From Marco to Cedar Key to The Indian River and the lake country. Lots of great sailing possibilities for the shallow draft Sun Cat. Check out West Coast Trailer Sailor Squadron "WCTSS". Google the site and consider joining in. Next get together is at Cedar Key May 6,7&8 for the small boat meet. It's the last get together listed for this year because it's kind of the end of our sailing season. But there is a planned event on the Indian River I think in May or June. The new schedule will be out soon. The members are all small boat sailors with years of sailing experience. Lots of fun with these guys. The site has a picture section and you can see many Sun Cats at the various cruises/day sails. We had four at Peican Bay Cayo Costa anchored off the beach where they could just step from the cockpit to the beach. Really cool.

Thanks Tom and Barb for the warm welcome!  I am looking forward to joining WCTSS once we get our boat set up and equipped.  I saw all the interesting places you all go and with so many sailors the knowledge of the areas is surely great.

Welcome to the cult of the Compacs....Errrr...Cult/Club...who knows.  LOL

Anyway, this is a good place to get information. Congratulations on the new boat.  It sounds like you will have a full crew aboard but it great that you are taking the kids sailing.  Who knows, maybe it will take and help ensure the future generations of sailors.

Fair winds and following seas.

Love to have another SunCat in the WCTSS!  I think we're up to 5 now.
