Title: NC temporary trailer tag
Post by: archimedes on March 09, 2016, 06:31:38 PM
Does anyone know the process of getting a temp. tag for a trailer purchase in NC?

I'm buying the trailer in NC and taking it out of state.

I've checked everywhere online and can't find anything.  I thought maybe one of our NC members might know.

Thanks

Here is who to call: http://www.dmv.org/nc-north-carolina/license-plates.php

If the trailer is registered in NC, maybe you can just borrow the tag and mail it back to the seller.

I believe the only way to get a temp tag is if you are buying the trailer from a nc dmv licensed dealer. If you can borrow the tag and send it back once you get home, that is probably the easiest thing to do. Safe travels.

If I understand correctly, you are picking up a trailer in NC and taking it home to another state and you think you may require a temporary tag to tow the trailer through NC.  The AAA office in any state can assist in obtaining a tag.  You will be required to have the title.  With the title in hand, get the tag in your home state, take it with you and put it on the trailer when you go to pick it up.  You do not have to be a AAA member to receive tag services.  They may charge a few dollar fee for non members.  If that is not possible, you could take the trailer out of state without a tag.  Not all states require taqs on trailers.  Expecially if the tow vehicle does not have a NC tag either.
