I am out in the belly of the beast working.  I am not complaining because for every hour I work I get an hour of Comp Time.  I am going to have one hell of a nice vacation after this weekend (36 hours for this weekend and 8 hours from last monday's holiday).  Add to that the 134 hours I already had.  I have to burn this leave in a year.  LIFE IS GOOD

We have almost half a foot thus far outside the nation's capital, and much more expected.  Be mindful if you have to travel.  On Wednesday, my wife's 10 minute trip back from music lessons took nearly 2 hours, and my 2 hour commute took almost 5.  Hopefully the roads get cleaned up efficiently.

We ended up with about 2 feet--I measured 22 inches.  Here is my car--not sure I'll be going anywhere anytime soon.

Three week old snow sitting at about 8 inches in Sturgeon Bay, Wi.
Had a few days of melt with harsh sunshine although below freezing.
A little dusting that blew away.

Just to let you guys that it's not snowing here in Florida, I took this about two hours ago after a little time on the boat... the wind died down a bit, so, off to the mooring buoy.

Ted:
Don't take this personally, but you are hereby banned from the site for being insensitive to your northern  and snowbound brothers. Also, I'm personally sending you down 5 truckloads of NJ snow! And a shovel! Enjoy!

When it is 120 degrees this summer in Flordia and you are out in your boat thinking you are sailing on the Lake of Fire I will send you evil pictures back!!!!!!!

That is just plain wrong!

I am on day 3 of working.  I think that I have gotten 6 hours of sleep and I am already at 30+ hours of actual work time (actually more but that is what is on the clock).  It has been nuts.

I am going to enjoy my 3 weeks off in May!!!!

Well... couldn't resist. Grew up in Minnesota. I remember what mornings were like when it was really cold. Everybody coming into work, talking about whether or not the car started, if it was plugged in, etc. Crunchy, squeaky snow. That particularly fresh smell on a super cold morning. Inches and feet of snow a couple times per year.

Now my family, most of whom live in Minnesota still, are always telling me that they couldn't live here because it is so hot. So you have to gloat a little when you can. Trust me - I feel your pain northerners.

"This morning, I shot six holes in my freezer;
I think I've got cabin fever
Everything seems to be wrong"--Jimmy Buffett-"Boat Drinks"

Seriously, we got two feet and I worked during the entire storm.  People were just being stupid!

I was finally off yesterday and I came home to dig more stuff out.  This snow is nuts.  I am so ready for spring.

florida in my estimation is the land of "toos". landscape-TOO flat and uninteresting. people--TOO many (some speak english though). hot-way TOO hot in the summer. traffic--way TOO much (back to the people thing). bugs-way TOO many. seasons--TOO few. if i ever move to a warmer clime---it wont be florida--TOO much. that blue water sure is pretty though.

Title: Re: SNOW....Winter Storm Jbugs-way TOO manyonas

bugs-way TOO many

Lol, The worst bug attack I ever encountered was in St. Paul, MN.  I was up there for  corporate meeting, decided to go out for a run before work, ran through an area by a creek and was attacked by some kind of vicious black fly that bit with a vengeance. No Florida mosquito could match up with those beasts.

And there are different Floridas.  The Panhandle, particularly the East portion, is nothing like South Florida. No traffic, got some semblance of seasons, plenty of green, beautiful beaches, and if you can get through the summer season, you have the place to yourself.

My son in Philly told me he and his wife spent 3 hours each digging out.  That's all I need to know.

Well... Florida certainly isn't for everybody. But that could be said about anyplace. Certainly this time of year FL is an awesome place to be. For trailer sailors it is wonderful. One can hit lakes, the gulf or the Atlantic and no mountains to climb over en route. The waters are filled with beauty regardless. Worst bugs for me were either in Alaska or northern MN but I have been pretty chewed up on occasion in FL as well. Overall, though, I have certainly learned to like FL.

When the hurricanes come through (and they eventually will) you can post pictures of sailing in NJ, Bob.

forgive me if i seem to hate florida. i put it on the list of places that are nice to visit but i wouldn't want to live there. Alaska is number one on the list, followed by any large very crowded city. guess i need to book a seat on the mars spaceship.

The Joisey shore has some pretty mean flies. You can't see 'em, but sure can feel them rip the skin off your neck!

Well up and at it early and thought jus maybe a lone "I like snow" voice in the wilderness might be tenured. i am not wild about the plowing and shoveling of stuff (I don't have a climate controlled tractor cab) on our little farm here in the center of the known universe but with a good fire going, the cross country skis all waxed up, and a hot drink at the ready a good snow is hard to beat! Actually other than the post storm plow out Sunday AM, most of the next week was spent alpine skiing and boarding up on a nearby mountain where we have a little getaway till we headed to sea level for the CBMWG. I do know at least one other person on here who actually likes to get out in the snow for xc or simply soaking it in! We'll keep your name safe B--23 from BB,NJ!

We love our seasons! Florida has seasons too. Tourist season and not tourist season!  :)

Hey, I like snow.  March 17, Frontier flight 803 non stop Memphis to Denver, then rent car up I70 to U.S. 40 the Granby highway to Winter Park.  See some old friends, play in the snow for six days, then reverse the cycle returning to the good old warm South.  That's the way I like snow.

It does snow here, but it is different.  We don't shovel, we don't plow, we don't drive, we hibernate for 48 hours watching it out the window sitting by the fire and by then it disappears as mysteriously as it appeared.:)

As a landlocked sailor who has visited both areas I would take Northern Florida in a heartbeat.  Give me a small house with a slip for my boat in St. Augustine and I would be set for life.  I can always visit the Pacific Northwest if I want some cooler weather in the summer months.

So is anyone else just a little tired of still seeing snow piles from the storm over 3 weeks ago! We love our snow but the below zero temps forecast for this weekend is finally getting me thinking about spring! The skiing has been fantastic but with below zero temps on the mountain you can really only go out for 3-4 hours before looking for a warm fire!

Remind me to not be complaining about the heat in August! :)

Again, people are freaking out about potential snow in the DC area, and it's driving me crazy.  Yesterday I turned off the exterior drains, and today I drained water lines that run inside an exterior wall in preparation for the single digit temps.  Did that groundhog predict an early spring???

Florida, as much as it gets bad publicity, is looking tempting now...

And those from Wisconsin or where-ever pseudo-Canada, or real Canada, can quit laughing at me; just because you live through this every year doesn't make it right.

It ain't right! With that said, if we didn't like our seasons so much and our snow sports, we'd be one of those sailboat owners that migrated with the geese. Still may happen some day!
