I'm preparing now.  I received the book "The Competitive Cat" as a X-Mass gift.  I've already read the first couple of pages.  I'll wait and read the technical details the night before the big race.

so im guessing that roger better look out.  while im on the subject, i was thinking of altering the race course in the following way. leave marker one where it was , place marker two more to the south (it might be easier to see not looking straight into the sun) and having a start finish marker at the original start location near the dam. the course would still be---race to the 1st mark rounding it to port----then to the 2nd mark rounding it to port- back to mark1---then around mark 2 then to the finish. any thoughts?

This sounds good. If I can crew with Roger again, we will be gunning for first place!

Hey Bob,

I heard through the grapevine that Roger has rigged on of those fancy-schmansky self-deploying massive windsurfing kites, so I don't doubt a first place finish this year.
In fact I found this spy pic of his testing in Iowa. Might want to stock up on PBR ballast to help stabilize the rig!

How high can I fly before I'll need a pilots license. Just waiting for the ice to clear to start practicing.

Roger,

Oh I would't worry about getting too high, Bob's expert kite sheet handling skills, not to mention water cannon,  are second to none.
And if that doesn't work you can always string out empty PBR cans as a makeshift air drogue to keep her in check.  I know you think it can't be done but I saw it on Mythbusters.

And if all else fails...long distance water cannons could be deployed.

Of course  we all know that Roger and I would have taken 1st place but we didn't want us 2 old guys to embarrass anyone so we spilled some wind to share it with you other guys. This year, I'm bringing a secret weapon. Ha...no clues but you will all have the image of Koinonia's stern ingrained on your brain!

So you are thinking of a taco and a hotdog and a half,  sort of a hybrid Olympic modified, In that case I would go with a regular course which is not the strong suite for our compacs , but you do get a downwind leg. If you are wanting to spice things up a bit, I think a series of say 3-4 regular start line races with an all fleet start just doing two short windward leewards with a race time of about 35 minutes each would be fun. that would mean some close boat sailing with a little pushing at the marks. Of course the Capri would have a decided advantage here as she would sail well inside the compacs! However the cat boats should scream downwind leaving the 16's and the 19s at a bit of a disadvantage, maybe....Kick what are your goals here? I am sure we can come up with something that tests our skills yet doesn't favor a particular boat. sorry if this is disjointed, I am under the weather today, fever ect. yuck I hate being sick......

matt, when you are feeling better lets get together and iron out the details. im up for anything that is fun (probably without "bumping").  i figure on as much racing as the group wants. i would like to sail in at least one race but playing the part of race "official" is fun too and it gives us a lot of opportunity to take pictures.  i also think this spring that you and i and rich can test sail a couple of courses and see what works best. by the way the lake is in good shape and the docks are in. we will probably sail in a couple of weeks if we get a good day or two. give me a yell and we can meet for a meal or a few beers.
