Title: Compac 16 vs peep hen?
Post by: domromer on January 02, 2016, 10:52:57 AM
Anyone here ever owned or been in a peep hen? I've owned a peep hen but have never been able to check out the cabin of a compac 16. We are boat shopping and I think we've narrowed it down to a compac 23, but we've yet to see the interior or a 19 or 16, so I'm wondering how they compare to a peep hen.

A good friend had a Peep Hen that I cruised on with him a few years (decades?) back. Neat minimum cruising boat design for shallow protected (warm) waters. I think you'll find the cabin of the 16 to be less commodious than the Peep Hen, as the berth footroom in a 16 is quite tight and headroom is less. The ComPac 16 cockpit is, of course, much longer, although not as deep, and the 16 is much less prone to capsize than the Peep. The 19 has much more room (including sitting headroom) in the cabin than the 16, and a slightly shorter cockpit. It is a comfortable boat, and sails well for a shoal keel. Both are quite a bit more to rig and launch than the Peep Hen, and draw more with their fixed keels, but both can take a lot more weather.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info, that's the kind of feedback I'm looking for.
