Want to introduce myself to the forum as a new owner of a 1983 c-16. I have been looking for a long time and finally made the five hour trip yesterday and the long 6 hour trip home. Spent the day cleaning her up and practicing putting her together in the driveway. Now I just need to learn to sail. I am in the Wilmington, NC area if anyone feels like taking me along one day and showing me the ropes. Need to figure out a mast cruch and few other things and look forward to countless hours of forum browsing.

I am in Charleston, SC ... a bit far for you travel for a lesson this time of year.
Search the CP 16 info for whatever you want to do to your yacht .... probably several captains have done it before ....... the site has a wealth of information.
I made three mast crutches before I copied another's idea (from this site) of making one from an actual aluminum crutch I adapted from a pair I bought at the local GoodWill store for $5.00. It attaches to the rudder assembly and I replaced the 'under arm portion' with a couple different sizes of PVC pipe so as to create a roller. Light weight, easy to install and remove, no holes or alterations to the rudder itself. I'll email you pics of you want. I would attach them here but have not mastered the picture posting of the site.

Welcome aboard. We learned to sail on a Compact 16, Hull#1270. They are wonderful boats. Very forgiving, yet small enough to teach you quickly when you are doing something wrong. We are now sailing her big sister, the CP23, same hull design, same architect, Clark Mills.
Not sure your situation as far as keeping your boat, they trailer well, easy to rig, easy to launch, but even then we ended up after a few years finding a location that we enjoyed and could keep her fully rigged on her trailer and just back her in the water and moor out, for $25 a month!
Now that they are not being made anymore they will only grow in desirability and be coveted. We are trying to track down our little 16 that we let go 25 years ago! Hoping she has a good family.
Sure you will enjoy this forum as there is much information, advice, and support. You may find that Bob23 will be approaching you for the $5,000 dues. If you mumble something about PBR it will buy you time! All kidding aside this is a great group of folks. :)

Thanks a lot for the welcome and already for the great wisdom. I have begun my construction of my crutch based on Chuck's design and can not wait to get her in the water. I will post a pic as soon as I figure out this posting system. Good thing I already have a stock of PBR on hand.

I distinctly remember the sad face on our two year old as he watched our cP16 after she sold drive away. :(
Got him into white water boat paddling early but it took him awhile to forget our boat. He spent more than a few nights as an infant and toddler being rocked asleep. We never forgot however and am so glad to be back on a sailboat. :)
