Hi guys,
Can anyone offer suggestions on where to mount an external transducer on the hull or transom on a CP23.
I have a small chartplotter combo that has capability to read water temp.
From previous posts, I gather some folks mount it internally. I could do that but I would then know the hull temp.
Thanks,
Fred
That is a big quandary. If you mount it to the exterior then it will get fouled with growth (salt water).
The one thought that I had was that if you mounted it, somehow, to the kick up rudder. That way when you weren't using it the transducer would be out of the water when the rudder is kicked up.
As regards mounting a transducer. I attached a plastic two foot 1X2 to the plywood my motor mount is attached to, and mounted the transducer on the end of the 1X2. Works fairly well, the sailpro doesn't bother it, and an easy setup.

It depends upon what you are hoping to measure. We went external for a couple reasons.
1. there already was a non functioning knot meter and transducer with a thru hull so already had a hole.
2. We installed a transducer that measures, depth, speed thru water (as opposed to speed over bottom which the GPS provides), and temperature. Can't do that with an internal mount and not sure it would work well other than thru the hull.
Hope that helps.
Ah HA! NO MAS! Got ya! You can get a transducer that is through hull that does all of that...Speed, Temp, Depth: http://www.westmarine.com/buy/garmin--thru-hull-mount-smart-transducer-with-depth-temperature-speed-nmea-0183-235-khz-10-degrees--9924259?cm_mmc=PS-_-Google-_-Shopping_PLAs-_-9924259&adpos=1o4&creative=78429748924&device=c&matchtype=&network=g&gclid=CJSqvO_ovsoCFU4WHwodqqsNNg
I want one of those someday but, for now, I will deal with my current depth finder, broken speedometer, and no water temp.
Yup what i said! Not inside the hull but thru the hull. Not the one we installed but still gotta have a hole!
