Title: Iam a new Com Pac forum member and glad to be here
Post by: patfurr on December 02, 2015, 07:27:01 PM
Hi All.  We recently purchased a 2011 Sun Cat that is in better than new condition. Yes there is such a thing as better than new.......We just tucked it into the back of our garage for the season after a final sail on Lake Winisquam in New Hampshire the day after Thanksgiving.  It's easy for me to say she is my dream fulfilled.  A brief history of my sailing background.  Our family got our first sailboat, an Alcort Sailfish in 1960 or thereabouts, to be followed by a Sunfish soon after.  The Sunfish became the young kids boat, and me being the youngest of 6 kids, that was what I learned to sail on.  Dad got a Lightning hull #6567 and promptly named it Impulse II.  I was happy to crew for him on several races when my older sister Kathy wasn't available. After saving money from shoveling snow and mowing lawns I finally purchased my own sailboat, a 420 when I was 16 or so.  Wow! what a different animal.  Too much fun skimming at hull speed plus with my friend Mark on the wire reaching across Lake Champlain racing the ferries, and often times pulling away from them.  After joining the Air Force and being assigned to Hurlburt Field Florida, I found a very good 470 and ratcheted up the WOW factor even more.  Then finally retiring to Albuquerque with nary a puddle within a hundred miles, my sailing came to a very long temporary halt.  Until that is, we made the move last summer to New Hampshire and found our dream boat.  We will be sailing on the many lakes in the region of New Hampshire and Vermont and love how easily this boat launches/recovers from and to the trailer, and how easily it tows.  I will be picking your salty brains on many fronts so be prepared.  Looking forward to hearing your tips and even more so to meet you on the water some day.
Pat

Welcome to the Sun Cat family Pat! Here's hoping that you enjoy your Sun Cat as much or more than we enjoy ours!

Hi Pat,    welcome to the forum.. thanks for the background.. it was a very interesting read!    I used to live in Wolfeboro, and my kids are now  in the Plymouth area.   We get to NH from time to time, although, not as much as I would like.. but this past summer we began working at a campground in Maine - we hope this will continue to be a tradition for the foreseeable future..  hoping to get our  compac 23 up there in the next year or so..    I hope that you are loving NH, and that you get to use the boat a lot next season.  I will look for your stories  jt

Hi Pat,

Welcome to the ComPac forum, and especially the SunCat subgroup!
I've owned NOMAD almost a year now, and it's fulfilling my dreams!

Welcome Pat,  I sail a CP25 on Lake Champlain and trailer to the Coast of Maine for druising.  My sister lives in Laconia.  The lakes you  have around you are great.

Well, I've been druising for nearly 50 years now but only after the anchor is set. Soooo I guess that it would be dnchoring. To the new Sun Cat owner. They are great little cruisers and particularly good for plying the Florida West Coast where we now sail. I am sure you will enjoy this pocket cruiser.

Welcome indeed! We too have just returned to sailing after a long hiatus. You are in a beautiful area of the country and we have been up through there more than once.

You will have much support and knowledge shared on this forum. You will also notice that there is a well developed sense of humor here! Sailing and smiling.  :)
