Title: Lost my rudder pin today
Post by: Peter Dubé on November 21, 2015, 04:28:28 PM
After my sail today, I went to put in the keeper pin only to find it missing.

What idea the diameter and length?. I'm guessing quarter by three?

Thanks!!

I use a 2" x1/4" dia. nylon bolt as a shear pin with a nylock nut that I just screw on finger tight. It will not come off until you want to. Unscrew it and pull the pin. I also have a 1/4" fast pin if I know the water is going to be deep and no obstructions and to hold the rudder up when trailering.

Tom L.,
Thanks for the reply. That's a cool idea about using the nylon bolt as a sheer pin. I may try it. I have been keeping my board down by setting the pivot bolt snugly. I previously had the old style wing nut, but now have the nut with the short lever. This is MUCH EASIER to set properly.

I did measured the diameter of the pin hole. It is a quarter inch pin. I have two tethered pins on order from Amazon
