we are looking at a used com pac 23, and noticed the forward hatch leaking, cushions are wet above the head.
Is this a common problem, if fixed asap, do you think cushions will be ok?
Might not be the hatch, but the cowl vent. Mine leaked a bit and I just replaced it. I'm not all that familiar with the different years- mine is a 1985 23/2 and the hatch has seen some fierce winds and rains and not a drop. My cowl vent leaked where it attached to the deck. Replaced it with a Vetus from Defender. I bought the one with the prism in it but, upon inspection when it arrived, would rather have the non-prism model- it might last longer. By the way, I've just joined this group and look forward to much interaction. Bob
Good Sunday morning Bob welcome to this site. A C-P 23 is a fine boat, almost bought that size myself. But I picked the 19 'cause skippy here was being 'money cheap' plus the 19 had a few features on her that appealed to me.

I own a 1989 CP23-3 which I purchased last September. When I brought her home I found several cabin leaks, from the vhf antennae lead where in exited the cabin roof (in the forward cabin near the foreward hatch), loose screws used to attach the exterior hand rails, and along the hull/deck seam in the vacinity of the chain paltes. Several of these leaks resulted in wet cushions during heavy rains. All of the these leaks were fixed with resealing (with 3M 5200) and or tightening of loose hardware. (The repair of the hull/deck seam took a couple of days) The cushions all dried completely with no adverse affects even here in the damp Gulf Coast climate. The foreward hatch that you are (were?) concerned with was not an issue. At the present time she is tight as a drum. I have come to expect that the stresses put on the majority of sailboats results on leaks from time to time that can usually be remedied with a bit of time and effort.
By the way, the CP23 is a great joy to sail. Hope you ended up with one.
