Title: The training continues......
Post by: MacGyver on May 16, 2015, 01:19:36 PM
Hey everyone!

I haven't been on the forum in a while! I keep very busy when at training, and my day at home every two weeks is filled with house keeping and laundry, and also some wife time!
I have also not been able to call my friends from the forum to let you all know how I am doing thus far, so here it goes:

I am progressing well, working diligently to learn all this new stuff! I just graduated the program Friday the 15th! I am officially a Assistant Manager now, and also passed my Food Safety tests, so now just waiting for results from the state test! I still have a couple weeks up north yet, to help fine tune what I have learned and get into some routines as well. Then they send me to Arkansas for the Auto Care Center training. Total left to go is about 4 weeks.

A senior facilitator paid me a huge compliment the other day telling me in front of some class mates that she can see me becoming a Market manager very quickly, which is about 4 levels up from my current level. That really boosted my confidence as this complete career change had me on edge. I am glad this opportunity came when it did.

I tell you all though, I cant wait to get back home, so I can finally uncover the 19 and go for a long day sail with my wife...... I need some down time, living in a hotel and eating out all the time, coupled with all this knowledge and also long hours, short sleep times due to studying and such, I am most certainly ready for a break.

I have vacation time scheduled for CLR, so I will see you all there!

Mac

In my career I have fought long and hard to get training and continuing education.  I always thought that it was the answer and a great resume builder.

Or so I thought:

Recently I was looking to switch agencies.  I was flat out told by a perspective agency that they aren't interested in my training.  If they want that kind of training then they would send a person to training.  I about fell out of my chair.

GOOD LUCK finding someone with what I have is what I thought.  16 years in my career and I have a binder of certificates that is 3 inches thick.  I am an instructor in several disciplines and I have a ton of teaching time along with all of my time of service.

I have been watching job places, in general, go from tolerable to bad.  Most places I know of have major issues. Employees are treated badly and, because it is a bad economy, the employers get away with it.  I have seen workplace bullies and all other kinds of issues like that.

Sorry about the rant....I am just a bit angry because my wife is having a bit of a time with her employer.  She has about three months to find something new.  Not fun!

Good luck and I hope that you get some time off.  Jobs come and go, the time away from them is the most important thing.  You can work your butt off, work tons of overtime, and not be happy.  It is the time away, with family, or sailing that makes all of the work stuff tolerable!

Jason,

I was impressed with your work ethics the 1st time we met.

You're dedication to your trade, no matter where you end up, will always be recognized by those who apprieciate it.

This is why i dragged our 19 4 1/2 hours south to your shop for a bottom job.

Young people with your commitment are a rare breed these days.
